How I Got 150+ Email Subscribers With a Small Twitter Account
And how you can do it too
Today marks 6 months since I started a Twitter account.
I’ve avoided Twitter like the plague for 5+ years. I thought the platform was overly toxic. I didn’t want to spend my time arguing with SJWs under random hashtags.
I warmed up to Twitter once I realized it had a great wave of organic traffic to grow my email list.
Even though I’ve only got 250 followers so far, I’ve gained 150+ email subscribers.

How did I do it?
Here’s a breakdown of what I did over the past 6 months to grow my email list.
1. Join An Engagement Group
I invested $120 in an engagement group for 6 months.
These are big groups meant to help each account in the group grow as much as possible. Everyone has to like or comment on everyone else’s tweets.
Quick engagement on Twitter is essential.
The quicker you get likes on your tweet, the higher the potential it has to go viral.
I try to like and respond to at least 20–30 bigger accounts per day.
You can reply to other accounts without an engagement group, but it’ll be a slower process.
I’ve built up great relationships with my engagement group so much that the person who runs mine agreed to retweet any tweets I send him in exchange for ghostwriting tweets on his other account.
I also received a discount for the next 6 months.
Join an engagement group and you could receive great rewards for being involved.
2. Quality Over Quantity This Time
I know, it’s the opposite of what I preach here on Medium.
I’ve tried tweeting in abundance only to fall on my face. I’ve noticed ever since joining my engagement group that all you need are 3 quality tweets per day to keep your account growing.
You can do short tweets, long tweets, or even a thread.
I usually tweet one thread every 2–3 days.
Someone in my engagement group retweets a few of my threads and I’ve had a couple do pretty well.
I use threads as a chance to flex my writing muscles on different subjects.
3. Niche Down or Else
You’ll grow faster if you have a specific niche.
Here’s a small hack:
Make sure your niches are clear in your Twitter bio.
You don’t want to confuse your audience or yourself for that matter. The easier it is to see, the easier it is for others to make a decision whether to follow you or not.
I make sure to keep my niche (which is writing) strong by tweeting at least 1 writing tip per day.
4. Promote your email list freebie EVERYWHERE
You can’t actively grow your email list without a freebie for people to sink their teeth into.
Once you create that, put it underneath every single one of your tweets you send in your engagement group — especially threads.
Also, put it in your bio and write a pinned thread explaining your story and your expertise.
I have a pinned thread that tells my Medium journey and how I gained success on this platform after 1 year of posting every day.
After that, I put my email list freebie at the bottom in case anyone is interested in how I write so much every day.
It’s a big part of why I’ve gained so many email subscribers with just 250 followers.
Final Thought
The other “hack” to Twitter is to keep fucking going!
I know it’ll be frustrating in your first few months, but if you join an engagement group, reply to at least 20 bigger accounts per day, and focus on 3 quality tweets (with at least 1 in your niche), you’ll grow in no time.
All it takes is patience, just like with all social media platforms.
If you use it correctly, you can grow your email list to the moon.
Good luck.
