Abstract

The article titled "How I Got 1,000 In Tips Last Month" is a humorous and introspective piece detailing the author's journey to earn 1,000 in tips. Initially, the author discusses a strategic plan with their grandmother to leverage Medium's new tipping feature, aiming to achieve financial independence. However, the author's grandmother criticizes the low hourly rate of writing on Medium and encourages the author to find a more lucrative job. Realizing their writing career was not leading to financial success, the author decides to seek employment at their uncle's restaurant. The article concludes with the author acknowledging the hard work of waiting tables and the financial rewards it brought, contrasting it with the perceived futility of relying on writing for income. The author playfully teases the reader by withholding the answer to their success until the end, only to reveal that the true success came from physical work, not from writing on Medium.

How I Got 1,000$ In Tips Last Month

That’s me, happy in the middle of all the flowers I could buy with the $1,000 — by Allef Vinicius

I hope you’ll understand I cannot give you the answer straight away because then you wouldn’t read the whole article and I wouldn’t make money.

That’s why I wrote it at the end.

Let’s have a small break here to give you the time to scroll down and read the end first. Don’t forget to come back!

You good? Take some more time if you need. Don’t worry; I’ll be waiting for you.

Hannah says it’s worth the wait. Can we believe her?

Thanks for coming back! It’s good to have you here.

I had a strategic session with grandma at the beginning of last month

„Medium introduced a new tipping feature, grandma. We need to pivot and create a perfect storm to early-come the market,” I said, full of insightful vision, as always.

„With all the money we’ll make, we’ll buy you some new dentures, and you’ll finally be able to eat grilled corn again.”

„Smillew,” she said, with that tone of voice I remember too well from my childhood. This voice meant nothing good was coming my way. It would only draw my attention to how stupid I had been.

At best.

And sure enough, she added, „ you need to stop fucking around with this Medium thing you’re doing — pardon my French, the hourly rate is a joke. It’s a big Scheisse — pardon my German. You need to take ‘tu culo perezoso,’ out of the couch and get a real job — pardon my Spanish. Capisce?”

She was right. My writing endeavors weren’t bringing me closer to my goal; financial independence and early retirement. The FIRE dream I had come to love after reading a few articles on Medium seventeen years ago.

Many decades ago, I thought I could make it big on Medium, like my cousin Jessica, but there was no more sense hiding from the truth.

My writing career was a failure.

People would never want to tip me on ko-fi to make me feel better and help a grandma in need. People wouldn’t pity a loser with a moth-eaten hat. People wouldn’t tell themselves that 19 dollars is nothing for them but could change the life of a writer in need.

So, I called my uncle Uvebruce and asked him for a position at one of his restaurants.

And that’s how I made $1,000 in tips last month. By working hard at waiting tables. A front-line physical work, not a circus of pushing around words on a random social media platform.

The end of the article where I’ll give you more information about the answer

I hope you will understand I cannot give you the answer at the end either. Many people know the trick and scroll down to read the answer without reading the whole article. These thieves get answers without paying with their reading time.

Unbelievable some people would do that.

It would be akin to writing sentences that don’t add anything to the article but fluff. Akin to writing sentences that would be here only to extend the reading time and extract a few more cents from the readers.

What a world we’re living in!

Sorry, I rant.

I know you’re not a thief, and I’m grateful for your reading time and all the tips you left me on my ko-fi account. Now go back up there and read the rest of the article.

With thanks to Paul Mansfield. He inspired this article with his funny comment on Facebook.
