I thought it was a scam.

I stared at the screen. Trying to take it in. I had an email from Sinem Gunel. Yes the queen of writing herself. She wanted to book a video call with me. To explore ways we could work together.

How did this happen?

Let’s back up a minute.

Back in February 2023 things were going badly. No read my stuff. Something had to change. So I decided to write daily. I’d get up early and write before work. Producing 175,000 words in 12 months. I poured out my words on Twitter and Medium.

And for 5 months nothing happened.

But I kept writing. Then astonishing things started to happen. I’m going to share my 7 massive results. So you know what’s possible if you keep writing.

1. Ghostwriting contract (July 2023)

This was my first sign of hope.

I got a message asking if I knew anyone who could ghostwrite. I googled what ghostwriting was. And thought I could do that. I’d gained some followers. And a few positive comments. So my confidence was growing. But it was a bold move.

If you get a hint of an opportunity. You’ve got to grab it.

I was paid $100/hour. This blew my mind. I kept thinking I’d wake up and discover it was a crazy dream. But when the money hit my bank account. I was transformed. Someone had paid cash for my words. For the first time, I started to believe something incredible could happen.

I ghostwrote for a 4 weeks. But didn’t want to write other people’s content. There’s lots of writing routes you can take. Go with what gives you joy.

2. Medium earnings $946 (Oct 2023)

I love writing on Medium.

I was writing around 10 articles/month, earning $25 (April-July 2023). Then got a pleasant surprise as my earnings jumped to $300/month. Then in October, they hit $946 and 1000+ followers/month. I’ve averaged $800 ever since.

I devoted 10 months to learning how to write well. To discover my niche. And crack the art of headlines. It’s no secret what works on Medium (or any platform). What sets you apart is making relentless improvements. But this provides zero dopamine. So most struggle to maintain this.

But earnings are not the key part of my Medium growth. I use the platform to direct people to my newsletter.

3. Newsletter growth (Nov 2023)

A newsletter is essential if you want to protect yourself from algorithm changes. And if you want to make serious money writing.

I took my popular Medium content and reused it in a weekly newsletter. This was quick to do. And the content proven to work. I promoted my newsletter at the end of every Medium article and on Twitter.

But when I created a free email course. My newsletter exploded. Gaining 250 subscribers/month. My course contained my best Medium content. I’ve explained the full process here. But the key was creating a high-quality lead magnet. Rather than a cheap download. This is what set me apart.

After 6 months I passed 1250 subscribers. Once you have this. Serious money opportunities open up.

4. Magazine contract (Nov 2023)

You have no idea who’s on your email list. And what might happen.

The editor of Property Hub magazine had signed up for mine (UK’s biggest property podcast). She was impressed by my writing. And invited me to write for their magazine. $475 for 4 hours work was unreal. But seeing my words in print was a special moment.

5. Coaching (Dec 2023)

When you email 1250 people quality free content every week. Something good will happen. Even if you haven’t a clue how to sell.

Two readers asked for a coaching session. One wanted feedback on their writing. The other asked for advice on creating an email course like this one. We agreed a price of $100/session and set up the calls.

Sharing my tips was exhilarating. And I knew I wanted to find a way to help more writers.

6. Video course (Jan 2024)

I decided to take a risk. And create a video course.

I had no idea if anyone would buy it. Or how to create it. Or how to sell it. But I set out to learn. I devoured books on marketing and course design. Watched Youtube videos on the best software.

I knew lots of writers struggled to craft headlines to bring in readers. So I packed everything I’d learned into 8 modules and 5 bonus resources. And with trepidation launched The Ultimate Headline Toolkit.

It made a staggering $1585 in 7 days.

Let’s be clear what this means. In 12 months you can go from 1 reader/post to this:

• design a course and make $1.5k in a week
• keep selling that course for years (no effort required)
• create more courses to sell to your email list

I now have a money-making machine.

7. Contact with big creators (Feb 2024)

Launching a paid product takes you up a level.

Big creators start to notice. Most writers give up after 6 months. So established creators don’t waste much time engaging them. But once you’ve proven you’re serious they’ll welcome you with open arms:

• Ayodeji Awosika made positive comments on my post
• Sinem Gunel booked a call and is now recommending my newsletter

I can’t even begin to imagine where this will take me. And it all began with a simple decision. Write every day. Get better every day.
