Use Emotive Language To Capture The Attention Of Your Audience

All the big writers do it. They’ll use sad stories as bait to emotionally hook readers like fish. In their mind, anything is morally justified as long as the average reading time goes up. Because, of course, that’s how people get paid.

In a fascinating blog post, Tim Denning discussed this in detail:

“The strategy is simple: When you have a bad day and want to cry, bottle up the emotion, and then spit it back out as a story. When you lose a loved one, write about it.”

He’s right.

Monetize the death of your family pet by writing a Medium article. Also, take notes on people’s grieving process so you can add different perspectives to boost the word count.

If you want to go a step further, become a foreign policy expert overnight by analyzing the crisis in Ukraine (or any other global event). As many writers on this platform have discovered, it’s an excellent way to capitalize on people’s genuine humanitarian concerns to get more views.
