How I gained 200 followers on Medium

I gained 200 followers within 3 months.

I started on Medium to practice writing after taking a writing course. Medium was a way for me to receive feedback and see what I could improve on.

I consider myself an ad-hoc freelance writer as I’m not very active in writing for clients. I usually try to post on Medium once a week. However, I have been inactive over the past month because of my busy schedule. I like to thank the readers and followers who have read my content and stayed around.

I thought it would be interesting to share my Medium journey so here is a short run-through of what I did to gain followers.

1. Posting weekly

Posting weekly helped me to engage my followers and hone my writing skills. I was able to interact with my readers which helped me determine the type of content to put out.

As a new writer, I found it helpful to build writing momentum. Getting into the “writing space” makes writing easier each week. It also challenges me to be creative and put out content, especially content that is not within my niche. Medium has definitely been a creative tool and platform for me.

2. Creating Pins

I started a Pinterest account to promote my Medium posts. Making visuals is something that I truly enjoy. I create a pin for each of my Medium posts on a weekly basis. Being a new Pinterest user, I am still exploring themes and colours that suit my personal branding. I hope to be able to translate that to my Medium profile design too.

3. Researching

Deciding on what to write about can be frustrating at times. I tend to research what is trending on Medium or around the world for inspiration. Technology, financial freedom, self-improvement, are just some of the trending topics right now. Based on my past Medium statistics, the more informational posts perform the best. Here is an example of my most popular post. I infer content that adds value to a reader is what draws in reads. This helps me think and research ideas that can be useful or insightful about a particular topic.

Conclusion

I hope this has been useful to those who are starting on their Medium journey like myself.

I definitely hope to publish more content here on Medium. While I am still brainstorming for future content to write about, I hope to hear from my followers and readers on what type of content interests them. I also would appreciate feedback on my writing!

Once again, thank you to my 200 followers for your time and support!
