How I Found out I was Pregnant for the Very First Time!

Plus how I surprised my husband, Luke!

I have wanted to be a mom my entire life. It has always been my dream. When my husband and I met and then got married, starting a family of our own is something we wanted more than anything in this world. On October 31, 2020 our dream came true!

I was two weeks and one day late on my period.

Yes I had enough willpower (or fear of getting a negative test result in my case) to wait that long to take the pregnancy test.

I had been experiencing minor symptoms in my two weeks wait like sharp lower back pains. I didn’t experience any major symptoms like I had seen many girls talk about before like: breast tenderness, nausea or vomiting. That is a big reason why I didn’t take the pregnancy test for so long. I was waiting for that strong blatant symptom to tell me

“Girl you’re pregnant!”

before I got my hopes up and took the test just for it to come back negative. That would have been disappointing. So each day I waited for any new symptoms to pop up and hope for the best.

The day my period was supposed to arrive I was anxiously waiting to see if she would make her grand entrance or not. This is when I started my video diary that I now have up on our YouTube channel where I talked about my symptoms and how I was feeling throughout this time.

I was experiencing slight intermittent nausea, slightly sore breasts (which was abnormal for me), and a couple instances of being out of breath for no reason. But…

I just had this gut feeling I was pregnant.

On the morning of October 31, 2020 I woke up and told myself “Today’s the day! Luke was at work and I was exactly two weeks and one day late. I had gotten to the point where I just needed to know, one way or another. I got up, grabbed my camera (because of course I wanted to film my reaction, in case it was positive), and went for it!

A few short minutes later I found out I was going to be a mom for the very first time. I was SHOCKED! I couldn’t believe my eyes looking at that test so I had to take a second one, just to be sure! The second test was positive and I was overwhelmed with emotion. I was incredibly happy, grateful, and couldn’t wait for Luke to get home to break this amazing news to him.

He was going to be a daddy!

I now had all day to soak this wonderful news in and think of a way to surprise Luke when he got home from work. I threw a few ideas around but ultimately decided on making a sign that read “Welcome Home DADDY!” I placed it where he would see it as soon as he came in the door and turned the corner.

I was so excited I could hardly contain myself. He text me at 3:30PM with the magic words, “I’m on my way home.” Ahhh! I scrambled around to make sure the cameras were placed just perfectly to capture his reaction and tried to wait patiently for him to arrive.

When he got home, he came in the door, turned the corner, saw the sign and the cameras set up but seemed a bit confused. It was Halloween and he was exhausted from his work day. He just assumed the sign was a Halloween sign, of some kind, and I was wanting to film a Halloween video. He didn’t even read the sign! I asked him, “Did you read it?” Confused, he walks closer to the sign, reads it and couldn’t believe his eyes!

After being in shock for a few seconds he comes over to me, picks me up, twirls me around, and falls to his knees. He was overwhelmed with joy. We knew our dream had come true. We were going to be parents!

This was a day we both will never forget. We look forward to this journey and we can’t wait to meet our precious baby.
