How I Earned $1700 On Medium In January This Year

And I have the proof right here.

It’s been a long time since I wrote about Medium, but this has been the biggest success for me since I joined, so I wanted to share. I got the highest earnings since I joined this platform back in 2019. The journey wasn’t easy for me.

Back then, I barely earned $100 in here every month since I joined. Maybe once did I pass $100. 100 articles and my stories never got curated, maybe two times only.

I tried to find ways to earn money online since back in 2018. There were lots of failures and frustrations but I persisted. I wanted to win after living a life full of struggles and obstacles.

I took almost a whole year break from Medium since early 2021. I decided to study top writers such as Ayodeji Awosika on his YouTube channel while delivering takeaway food as my main job.

I thought a lot about what to write about. I took free courses to learn. I improved myself and looking back at my old stories I cringe at how bad they were.

In September 2021 I decided to come back and give it another try. I experimented with a lot of things when it came to head image, titles, subtitles... On what to write and how to write it.

I messed up and made mistakes along the way but moved forward.

What have I accomplished after joining again in September 2021? I earned an extra 2.400 followers and earned between $300-$600 from September to December last year. Most of my articles are curated now.

In January this month, I earned $1700 and this is my highest earning on this platform so far, which is why I am writing this article, and this is how I did it:

Write About What People Want.

The top writers write mainly about stories based on personal development because readers are looking for ways to improve their life.

I use words such as “You.” Instead of “I.” because it becomes more personal to the readers as if I’m talking to them directly.

When you have finished your article, I suggest getting Grammarly because it proofreads your article for free and I’m not even sponsored by them.

Make sure to edit your articles and make them easy to read for your readers. My writing style is very light, easy, simple and I want to keep it that way.

I suggest you stick to your own unique writing styles, that’s what makes you stand out, and if it works for you, go for it, if you want to try something new, go for it. Experiment and have fun with it.

I suggest Grammarly based on my personal experience.

I Affirmed Every Day.

Manifestation is simple but has become complicated these days. You have to affirm and visualize, that’s all. If you can’t visualize, just affirm. Every day we affirm without being aware of it.

Since I came back I started to affirm, “I make a living on Medium.” every day. In January I decided to affirm for fun, “I earn $700 every month on Medium.” and I earned the double instead *mindblown* be careful of what you wish for *giggle*

I never told anyone this goal of mine. Keeping your goals a secret till you accomplish them is such a satisfying feeling, not everyone will understand your desire and that’s okay.

I Have a Calm Setup As I Write.

I light up my candle and incense. I organize my desk setup. I have my cup of tea or smoothie ready. I listen to relaxing music with headphones as I get “In the zone.” this is where my creativity starts to flow. If I don’t feel like sitting on the computer, I would lay in my bed and write from the Medium app.

I personally listen to relaxing traditional Japanese music while writing. I write for 30 minutes a day on my articles and sometimes for 1 hour if I stay focused and inspired.

When your room is organized, your mind becomes organized. I personally don’t like writing when the room is messy. I like to keep it clean and fresh.

Wear comforting and cozy clothes, perhaps meditate and go for a walk before you write your article. You get many good ideas from meditation and taking a walk in nature.

I Use Captivating Titles.

These are called “clickbait” titles as well. It doesn’t mean you should write a strong title and not give your readers what they ask for. You have to be authentic and give your readers what they’re looking for.

I make sure my titles look calm, clean and capture the reader’s attention.

I would rather click on the title that says, “6 Habits of Happy People” than “being happy is healthy” — Do you see the difference? The first title shows you what you will get… and the last one? The title is not articulated, yes being happy is healthy, good to know! Next!

I Use Strong Head Images.

I use head images of attractive people and clean images that are similar to the title. As long as the images are strong and clean, I will use them.

I remember John Assaraf talking about top colors that will increase your sales, so I used head images based on the colors he suggested to increase attention. I don’t remember which video it was but it was a content of his on Instagram or Youtube, I believe.

You can look up colors to increase sales to pick the best head image for more information. Colors such as red, blue, white, brown, and green can increase sales. I use white minimalistic images sometimes as well.

I find images on Unsplash, Pexels, Freepik, Pixabay, and sometimes Wikimedia Commons. I suggest you avoid using images that have been used so many times. Find something unique and rare.

I Publish To Publications.

It helps a lot to show your articles to more readers when the publications have more than 20k followers, for example, you just have to find the ones you like the most.

It helps to have your own publications as well because you make the rules and no one will edit your articles or reject them. You are the boss.

A little bit of independence is great when it comes to publications is great in my opinion. Your own publication is your own portfolio for people to read your content and your content is packed in one place.

I Look At My Most Viral Articles.

You can go to Stats and click on View to see your articles from highest view to lowest view. From this point on, you will see your best-performed articles, and it shows you what works for you.

What I would do is write a similar topic but with new information on it instead and sometimes it helps to write a similar topic for your new followers to read. I suggest you write down the topics that went viral for you.

I followed the rules of the top writers but sometimes I like to “break” the rules and add something different in my articles and try out new stuff. You should experiment with it and have fun with it at the same time.

To be frankly honest? It still hasn’t come to my realizations, I feel like I’m living in an alternative reality and trying to grasp what just happened.
