Abstract

ch article takes you one step closer to becoming a better writer. Therefore, like any asset, it is an opportunity to grow. When we do not see each article as an asset, we do not treat them with much care. In doing so, we end up writing poor articles. And this makes it harder to attract readers. It also reduces your chances of becoming successful as a writer.

When building anything, you want to ensure it has a firm foundation. How I Doubled My Earnings With a Change in Mindset

Photo by Brooke Cagle on Unsplash

I am approaching a year of being on this platform, and I have learned much. After reading a tonne of articles and working on my writing style, I have generated a small following.

I am still very far from the top writers on this platform. And I am still very young in my writing career. However, it did not take me long to realise how the top writers do what they do.

Many of us writers do not just want to write. We want to live off of our talents. Although we know this is difficult, we are encouraged by those who have been able to do it. Yet still, we sometimes ignore the signs in our faces that can help us do what we desire.

If you do not read the top writers on this platform, I strongly advise you to start doing so. Follow their work and see how they present their ideas. I have found they often leave their best pieces of advice all over their articles and behaviours. Through studying them, you can become the best writer you can be, plus more.

After spending almost a year studying their work, I have taken away one essential thing. If you want to be a successful writer, it starts with your mindset. Like most things, mindset determines our actions and how we respond to our shortcomings.

As a writer, you will come across many disappointments and confusion. Some days, you will smile at your stats, and others, you will look at them and think about quitting. However, having the right mindset will give you the results you want.

I have seen an increase in my earnings thanks to learning from the best writers on this platform. So, here are the three changes you need to your mindset to grow in your pursuit of a writing career.

Treat Each Article Like an Asset

Each article you write contributes to the overall empire you are trying to build online. Although we do not often see our articles as assets, they certainly are to the writer.

The first reason is that they have the potential to continue to earn. Like buying a house or investing your money, your articles can continue to earn way after published.

I have found that many top writers continue to earn money not only because they continue to write. Their constant income comes from the articles they have written months and sometimes even years before.

The second reason is that each article takes you one step closer to becoming a better writer.

And each article is a piece of the writing empire you are trying to build. So, write with purpose and ensure it is as good as it can be before sending it off.

Treat Your Writing Time as an Investment

Many of us are not at the point where we can live off our writing. Therefore, we write in our spare time. Some of us are even writing alongside having a full-time job and family.

Even though it may not feel like many hours in your day, your writing time is a big part of your life. Every time you sit down to write, you claim that you believe it is worthwhile.

Like any investment, you weigh up the other opportunities you have and pick the one you believe is best. And for many of us, we think that writing is the best option to choose. So, why do so many of us not treat it as such?

When we see our writing time as an investment, we are less likely to succumb to distractions or procrastination. We will take our time seriously because we believe it is the best thing we can be doing with our time at that moment.

All of our investments in life, whether relationships or careers, require commitment. Writing is a commitment you have subscribed to, and it will not grow unless you put the work in. So, see your writing time as an investment, and you will be surprised how your attitude changes every time you write.

Let Writing Be Part of Who You Are

When you introduce yourself to others, what do you lead with? Do you say your profession or who you are to others? I used to always start with my profession and then discuss hobbies.

However, I would always speak about my writing as if it was a less important thing I was doing. I never made the other person feel like I took my writing seriously, and this is a reflection of how I felt about it.

Although I wanted a writing career, I felt ashamed or embarrassed to say it to others. Even though I held my writing in high regard behind closed doors, it did affect the way I approached it. Not presenting my writing in the right light to others made me treat it with less respect and significance.

When we care about things, we tell others. That does not mean we go out of our way to make everything known, but we are open and confident when we communicate whatever it is. Therefore, start doing so with your writing.

Who cares if your parents think it will fail or friends do not understand you. Express your passion for writing, and you will see the difference it makes in how you approach it.

Closing Thought

These are massive mindset shifts, but it is what we must do. I have found great rewards in this change of mindset. By seeing my writing in this way, I have grown and improved my articles. Hopefully, you can do the same.
