"How I crashed a seven figure business"
A guy was recounting how he crashed a seven-figure business:
"I was $1.5 million in the hole. I lost focus… I didn’t pay enough attention to what was working and making money. Instead, I kept trying to make new ideas work, losing lots of money. In the process, I killed the parts of my business that were profitable due to the losses from the parts that were not profitable. I filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy a few years ago, which gave me a fresh start."
Damn, that sucks.
Now, this guy went on to start a new business that nets seven figures annually.
But…
If he'd taken a leaf out of Celine Dion's book.
Maybe his business would have survived.
On the 28th of May 2016, Celine Dion had a show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
And just before she started singing, Celine had a quick chat with the audience.
…after talking for a few minutes, she said:
"I've been singing the same songs for like thirty-something years.
But it's all your fault."
The crowd burst out laughing.
"You know, there's two ways to see this," she continued.
You can say:
I can't believe they're gonna sing that song again.
That's one side of the coin.
But on the other side of the coin is that…
Because it's your fault... we're still here repeating those songs. And the reason being… you made those songs live a long long time. So thank you for making this happen."
The crowd erupts, clapping and whistling.
And just in case my point isn't clear yet.
Direct Response OG, John Carlton once mentioned that his famous One-Legged Golfer ad ran successfully for eight consecutive years.
This was years ago, and it's likely the ad ran a little longer.
But think about that for a sec.
He kept mailing the same ad year after year, and the sales poured in.
Just like Celine Dion kept performing the same songs show after show to a sold-out audience.
Business owners like the $1.5 Million debt guy often try to be inventive.
Experimenting with new ways to generate revenue.
That's fine.
But…
Doing so while ignoring what's worked/working in your business is insane.
Maybe it's an email you sent that got a lot of replies.
An offer that brought in tons of sales.
A set of songs people can't get enough of.
If it has worked before, run with it till ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶w̶h̶e̶e̶l̶s̶ ̶f̶a̶l̶l̶ ̶o̶f̶f̶ it stops working.
