How I Built an Audience of 5,008 Without Quitting My Day Job

I built an Audience of 5,008 devoured followers without quitting my day job. I didn’t work every weekend or stay awake until 3 am to write my stories.

I didn’t sacrifice my precious time, I still read books, watched shows, ate relatively healthily, and had time left with my relatives. In a nutshell — I lived my life.

As you get it. I didn’t give up life in pursuit of building something online. I integrated writing into my life. If you are looking to do the same this story is for you.

Rewind

That said. It wasn’t easy and I still have a long way to go.

It wasn’t an overnight story.

I’ve been writing for weeks on the internet. Everything exploded in the last few weeks but before that, I was struggling as you may.

I even thought about stopping when nothing was working and my stories were getting no views.

But I didn’t. I didn’t because I love and loved writing too much to quit. I also always knew that I’d never fail if I didn’t quit. I would just get up, find something to write about, and type the words.

It just helped me put words to my feelings and thoughts, and disconnect from reality. I shared my thoughts with the world.

The hardest part

The hardest part was to create the habit of writing. Because even if I love writing it’s not always simple to “want” to write daily.

In the beginning, writing was something optional. I wrote a story or two per week.

When I decided to be serious about it and build an audience, I rapidly realized I couldn’t keep up publishing only 2 stories/week.

So How do I stick to the habit?

When I started I had zero ideas about what would happen and if I would even get a single read. I also had no Idea I could build a business on it.

That’s how I stuck to the habit. I didn’t have any expectations — so every tiny progress was a win and a source of motivation to keep writing.

Dealing with the uncertainty

Most people give up because they are uncertain that the efforts, sweat, and tears they put in will give them the reward they want. They are worried that they are putting useless effort into something and will get nothing back.

Here’s the deal.

Nothing is sure. You might write for years and get nowhere. You might write for a couple of weeks and become popular. You can’t know before. That’s part of the life. That’s a risk to take if you want to succeed.

Success comes from taking risks, quitting your comfort zone, and trying. You are not guaranteed to succeed. No one is.

But at least you’ve tried and you won’t beat yourself up not trying.

Focus on writing

The main reason I write is because I love it. Writing has become a hobby and a habit. Writing a good story is a source of gratification for me. That’s my reward.

I fell in love with the process. Writing had become a part of me, of my life. No matter what I will continue writing because it gives me so much.

As much as I am happy to get positive feedback and views, I don’t focus on them. Sometimes I prefer writing a story I’d like to share with the world instead of writing what people will certainly like.

And you know what’s funny?

These kinds of stories are the ones that are blowing up the most.

Focus on your writing. To write well, read a lot and you will improve every day. The rest will come with time. Trust me. Trust the process.

I know it will work because it already worked for me.

Consistency and Patience

Those who can wait patiently enough for the result to come win. Being patient is not enough, you should show up consistently if you want to achieve something.

That’s how you prove to your audience you are here for them so they can be here for you.

If you are just patient because you are waiting for results you won’t achieve anything. The key is to do it now, without waiting for someone else to do it. (Because let’s be honest — if you don’t do it, no one will)

You need the patience to do what you love without thinking of quitting.

It’s about mindset

It’s all about mindset. It’s you vs you.

If you master the capacity of controlling yourself completely you will do 90% better than the rest of the people. Do what you want instead of what society makes you want.

The 90% simply don’t control themselves:

  • They drink
  • Scroll
  • Party
  • Eat unhealthily

If you said you want to succeed and build an online writing business. Do it. Don’t wait. When you’re in control of what you are doing your life will improve drastically.

Just try.
