How I Became The Part Of Top 7% Writers!
Write, write, and write. That’s what writers do!
On Medium, only 7% of writers make more than $100. Let’s get deep into it!
- Let’s suppose, there’s a fixed rate (consider it as average), all the writers get $20 for 1000 views. (On Medium, $20 is considered as an average amount per 1000 views because most writers write about 500–700 words. And at that member reading time, $20 is being earned).
- According to the above calculation, 93% of writers are unable to get 5000 views per month. It means they are not part of the $100 club.
- So we need to get more than 5000 views per month in order to be in the $100 club.
*Writers earn more than and less than $20 per 1000 views according to the internal views and member reading time.
Am I In the $100 Club?
Yes! I am now part of the 7% writers community. It took me 4 months and 114 stories. It is not easy!
My Stats
Combined views of October, November, and December are 8500 views. And in January, I got more than 36k views. It all happened after writing 90 stories.
- In December, I was getting 50–100 views on a daily basis. And in January, I was getting 1000–1500 views per day.
- That’s called exponential growth. I have never expected so many views on early stages.

How I Became Top 7% Writer?
I believe that whatever we learn throughout our journey, as a human, we should teach others.
I am sharing the strategy that I used to get at this stage. Hope it will help you too.
1 — Write Better!
The most important thing is your content. Your content should be king. If your one story gets viral and readers don’t find it useful then you can’t sustain your position.
All the social platform detects how long the readers or viewers spend time on your content reading or watching. If they stay long enough, then your content is going viral. So make sure, give your best.
Things to consider in order to write readers friendly story.
- Make a catchy headline. It will bring your reader to your story and then they start reading.
- Write short and attractive subheadings. Like you read in this story at the top. “Write, write, and write. That’s what writers do!”
- Add the image which complements the topic of your story. It should be high quality, has sharp colors, and has some meaning within it.
- Write short paragraphs. Readers don’t read long paragraphs, especially when they read your stories on their smartphones, the paragraphs seemed to be longer than their actual length.
- Add references. Your reader will challenge you for whatever you try to teach them unique. Make sure you add references and write with logic.
2 — Maintain Consistency
You need to be consistent if you want to succeed. Every social platform commands quantity but quality.
Here on Medium, the algorithms push the profile which has a large number of stories. If the content is good the real humans will become your audience.
Write every single day. It will make you appear to thousands of people on daily basis. You need to attract every single person. Write and publish for them!
3 — Interact With Others
Interact with other writers and your audience.
- Whenever anyone comments on your story, make sure you clap for their comment and if possible then reply to them. It enhanced the connection between you and your audience. There’s a difference between followers and audience.
- The followers who just press the follow button. While the audience engages with your content.
- Read other writers, learn from them and ask questions. It will boost your knowledge.
- Don’t ever ask for “follow to follow”. That’s the most disgusting thing I have ever heard. It will never help you, trust me!
- I have more than 800 followers and only 64 followings. Do you think that I got these followers by following others? Not at all.
4 — Link building
Apart from writing better and maintaining consistency, another effective strategy to increase your views is through link building and search engine optimization (SEO).
Link building is the process of acquiring hyperlinks from other websites to your own. This can improve your blog posts’ search engine ranking and increase their visibility to potential readers.
One way to achieve this is through collaboration with guest bloggers. You can use a platform like Outreachboard to find bloggers in your niche and reach out to them to write guest posts on your website. In exchange, they can include a link to their own website in their post, which can benefit both parties.
SEO, on the other hand, involves optimizing your website’s content to rank higher in search engine results pages. This can be achieved by using relevant keywords in your content, optimizing your meta tags and descriptions, and ensuring your website has a good user experience.
By combining link-building strategies with your writing and consistency efforts, you can increase your chances of reaching the coveted 7% of writers who make more than $100 on Medium. Keep learning, experimenting, and engaging with your audience, and you’ll be on your way to success as a writer.
To Wrap Up Things!
Write in good quality and write as much as you can. It will help you learn a lot of things. Be original, and reflect your originality into your stories.
Humans love original and unique stories!
Make connections with your audience, learn from them and teach them what you know.
