This Is How I Accidentally Wrote a $300 Article

I was not expecting this

I discovered Medium back in the summer of 2019, and ever since then, I’ve been writing here, on and off, for 2,5 years now.

But just as any unconventional career path, keep on going has been a series of constant conversations within me battling whether or not it is possible to achieve this dream of mine.

One way I’ve kept my motivation up was that I’ve always celebrated the milestones no matter how small.

Whether it was the number of articles shared, the view milestones, or earning goals achieved, I’ve been following my progress closely.

As can be seen from the picture above, I even framed my first earning over 2 dollars back in April of 2020 and put it up to my wall.

This practice has kept me motivated, as well as given me the strength to keep on going.

With time, I was able to see more progress, but none of my stories went viral until my second year on Medium.

In August 2021, I wrote an article titled “A Simple Psychological Trick To Make Peace With Your Mind”, and it changed everything.

This article was inspired by the book I was reading back then which was called “The Untethered Soul” by Michael A. Singer, and it was one of the 17 articles I’ve published that month.

When I published it, I didn’t think this article would differ from all of the articles I had written so far, but then it somehow went viral, got 15.7K views, and earned me $300 to this day.

This was very unexpected because I’ve written very long articles, which I worked on for weeks, and these types of articles were the ones that I thought would go viral, but they never did.

This article was 3 minutes read, and as I felt an instant inspiration to write it, it didn’t take me more than a day to finish it.

So yes, this result really surprised me.

When I analyze the statistics, I think some of the factors that made a difference were the eye-catching title and the practical information that the article contained which was presented in a summarized way.

Lastly, there was a lot of engagement in the comments, and so it helps with the algorithm.

Overall this experience has taught me that to keep on writing, and publishing is not only great for improving my writing skills, but also it increases the chances of going viral.

Final thoughts

Today I’ve shared my story of how I accidentally went viral and the factors that may have affected this result.

I hope you’ve found this piece beneficial.

Thank you for reading.
