How Happy People Practice Self-Care Every Day

What is your idea of self-care? If your idea of self-care is escaping to a faraway island to sunbathe, watch the waves and drink bottomless margaritas, you’re probably right. However, we can’t always be on vacation. You have to figure out how to bring healing practices to your life daily. If a vacation is your only idea of self-care, you probably don’t participate in the practice so often. Happy people practice self-care every day… You read that right — Every day. Self-care is simply being kind to yourself and caring enough for yourself to prevent sickness, stress, and other accompanying health problems. It is a lifestyle that helps most people find balance and purpose.

The people who have discovered the strong linkage between their happiness and self-care are those who have made it a part of their lifestyle rather than a sporadic indulgence. If you took time out of 24 hours every day to:

  1. Take a walk in nature
  2. Engage in at least 30 minutes of your favorite type of movement
  3. Light sweet-scented candles
  4. Do one activity that benefits your emotional health, such as talking to a friend, journaling, or spending 10 minutes planning and reflecting.
  5. Practice mindfulness meditation to strengthen your focus
  6. Create a playlist of songs that uplift your mood
  7. Dance — Just get up and feel the music
  8. Eat healthy — fruits and vegetables are a great start
  9. Buy yourself that beautiful bracelet (or whatever) you passed at the store last week
  10. Watch some comedy videos on Youtube or Netflix, etc.
  11. The list is endless… If you did one or more of the ideas listed above, you will begin to enjoy life more and find yourself happier than you could ever imagine.

Shhh….I’ve just revealed a not-so-secret secret to staying happy, so what are you going to do? I say it’s time to include a self-care practice into your busy schedule. By doing so, you will successfully improve your work and personal relationships.

Helping others is also a form of self-care (weird!) because it helps you feel better about yourself and provides a sense of fulfillment.

So what are you waiting for? Get started!
