How Evernote Helps Me Curate and Catalog My Literary Inspirations
Making exploration convenient and lasting for book lovers.
Going through the literary pieces of incredible authors, one question dwelling in every reader’s mind is the “inspiration behind that piece!”
While some target readers with an interest in fiction and entertainment, what allures my interest is ‘knowledge.’
While some readers to seek pleasure from escaping reality and entering another world of imagination, some seek entertainment and drama; some seek relaxation, and a large portion wants to fuel their knowledge and ideas.
As the world is moving faster and humans travel through the digitalized era, everyone wants to enrich their minds with new case studies, quotes, entrepreneurial lessons, and knowledge.
A similar scenario goes with me, too!
I keep equipping my memory with knowledge of different areas through visual and audio media.
However, iDashboards UK states, “the human mind can only retain 20% of what they read, 80% of what they see, 10% of what they hear”.
Stop!
Before we decide to compromise on the limitations of the human brain, tell me one thing!
- Have your teachers ever recommended that you note all the critical points on your notepad?
- Do you remember being continually alarmed by your professor to highlight specific points in your book?
As per my humble notion, all of you must have at least one such instance in your mind right now…
This practice has proven quite helpful for students for centuries.
Another relatable question breaking into my mind now, which will form the core of my subsequent discussion, is: “Have you ever considered Noting with Evernote?”
This seems to be a simple note-taking app from the front, but it is also widely known as a Bibliophile’s best friend.
Organizing my own Book Club through Evernote.
While Evernote might seem handy for some readers, especially for recording thoughts, that’s merely scratching the surface!
I have organized a book club to manage my bookish tendency and retain my eternal love of knowledge.
I encounter meetings with people across several book clubs daily: while some have a serious purpose, some show up only for the ‘cheese.’
Nevertheless, everyone knows what book is appearing in their next month’s ‘to-read list’ and meeting the deadline.
Like other book lovers going through such experiences, you must have some thoughts to share regarding books you read and will have some books in your collection to look back at when recalling the best reads at year-end.
Evernote allows knowledge seekers like me to manage my book club by creating a separate notebook (see the template below) and adding notes for every meeting therein.

Let me help you too in benefitting from this app in curating your literary inspirations:
On receiving new suggestions, you can fill in this template alongside other details, such as a link to Amazon, essential discussion questions, etc.
Other things aside, clicking the ‘Share’ button will allow other club members to view your notebook.
This will also make the entire club history available online for your friends from anywhere, anytime!
Gather your inspirations in one place!
Regarding Amy Stewart’s experience writing her bestselling novel, ‘Girl Waits With Gun’, she made the best use of her massive catalog of hundreds of magazines’ clippings, snaps, and docs.
Most of all, keeping them all organized in one place was far more critical than gathering them all, as searching across folders could be as time-consuming as striding for them.
It is worth noticing that the organization of ideas has the same importance in nearly every case, whether for some research or memoir, dissertation, or fiction.
The Web Clipper feature of the app allows users to simultaneously save webpages, images, and passages, organize them, and stack and tag them in the way they feel fit.
Whenever I save some note from a book, I insert a tag for ‘Title’ and ‘Type’ of that note.
My ‘type’ stack comprises all areas I am interested in, i.e., Business, Travel, quotes, Entrepreneurial inspiration, etc.
As soon as I find an idea mesmerizing or a piece of knowledge helpful, I save it using the app’s scan feature directly from my handset.
Then, I keep that note under an appropriate tag in that particular book’s digital notebook.
As a final product, I have full-time access to my creatively organized catalog, where I can search particular notes under relevant categories anytime.
Final Thoughts.
Just as the famous saying goes, “Books are mirrors of the soul”; after my experience with Evernote, I will argue that:
Notes produced using Evernote become a mirror for the reader’s or collector’s brain.
The app possesses the stamina to become an ever-growing repository of ideas, information, adventure, and inspiration for today’s readers.
To go further, the digital notebook reflects one’s literary life.
