HOW DOES OUR FUTURE PUPPY FIT INTO THE DESIGN OF OUR NEW YARD?
We Need To Move The Fence So The Puppy Can Chase A Ball.
In the grand scheme of things, this is not the most important thing to figure out. Talking about the yard and our future puppy was a fun distraction and we had a really great conversation. It was really fun to imagine a puppy running after a ball in the yard. Dreaming our dreams is good for our souls, especially right now with COVID-19 hitting our area of the world.
I am scared my husband is or will become a carrier of COVID-19 because he works retail. I am scared he or I will get sick in the next few weeks. All of the plans will not be important if one of us dies. And getting a puppy is not urgent or necessary to us living in the house. Staying healthy and moving are the most important part of the month right now. We have a house to move into and a duplex to move out of. We have so many things to accomplish in the next three weeks.
One of my heart’s desires was to get our own home so my husband could finally get a dog again. He’s lived over five years without a lab to go pheasant hunting over at Ladd Marsh. He misses it so much. He loves talking about the three labs he’s had in the past 25 years and how much fun he had hunting and just playing in the yard.
So now we have a house with a yard. We want to teach the puppy to fetch a ball and maybe even a frisbee. The puppy will need a long, straight place to run. So, we have to be mindful of where we put a couple of trees we want to plant. It’s not a huge back yard, but if we move the fence it will be bigger. We have so much work ahead of us. Hopefully a new puppy will be able to join us pretty soon. I am hoping we can be ready before we discover a puppy is ready for us.
The fence needs fixing. Whole sections were removed to give vehicle access. Those sections will need to be reattached. Some standing sections will need to be moved to a different spot to enlarge the yard to include the garage. Old cement chunks need to be hauled away. We want a doggie bathroom area prepared behind the shed. Then there’s dog dishes, food, a collar and a dog bed for inside the house. Yard sale season is almost here. I am hoping some of these items will be easily found at really great prices. We will need to keep our distance from people when we shop. Yard sales might be the perfect way to stay six feet away from people.
We haven’t finished our moving. I cannot imagine where the dog stuff will go yet. I guess it will figure itself out as we design our home and put everything away. Knowing a dog will be joining us eventually and knowing we are not ready is potentially a very messy situation. With COVID-19, I am wondering if the dogs of this country will end up in shelters. We may hear of a litter of puppies who can’t find owners. It might be time to be pet owners before we are completely prepared because of the virus and how it might change other people’s lives. I sure hope we are ready before the puppy needs us to be ready.
