Are you one such Medium writer who has yet to make use of the tipping feature? Well, I certainly was until about five minutes ago. If you’re in the same boat that I recently was, find out below exactly how to add the feature that allows you to receive tips from your dear readers – a great Medium offering that gives you another possibility to earn with your writing on the platform.

Step-by-step guide

If you already have a preferred third-party platform into which you can receive funds, you’ll be delighted to know that the below will take you about 30 seconds. And if you don’t have one? It’s still good news — setting up the likes of a PayPal account can be done swiftly

  1. Login to your Medium account
  2. From the homepage, click on your profile icon and go to ‘Settings’
  3. Click on ‘Publishing’ (second tab)
  4. Click on ‘Manage tipping on your stories’
  5. Check the box next to ‘Display a tipping link on your stories’
  6. Paste link to your preferred payment platform (e.g. Paypal, Ko-Fi, Patreon accepted)
  7. Click on ‘Save’

That’s it, your readers will be able to start tipping you straight away! Now that it’s enabled this ‘Give a tip’ button will appear below all of the stories you’ve published on Medium. This is how it will appear:

  2. Click ‘Create PayPal.Me link’
  3. Add a photo of yourself
  4. Decide on your unique link name
  5. Read and agree to T’s and C’s
  6. Done! Copy and paste your link as per step. #6 above 🖕
