How Do You Feel About a Daily Medium Wildcard To Elevate Good Stories?

Like a cricket crescendo as dusk falls, the news of an official Medium Boost for top stories is creating an exciting ripple through the Medium community.

Writing from the heart, not for the algorithm, is top advice.

We all know that community engagement can help elevate quality stories and increase their chances of being caught by the algorithm winds. We use our 50 claps and comment on stories that capture our attention. We cheerlead fellow writers to success.

But what if there was another way?

Imagine we all had a daily wildcard. And we can choose to use this wildcard on one story per day. This wildcard helps distinguish a phenomenal story apart from a good story.

The wildcard is for stories that enhance our life, give us a sense of resonance, invoke emotion and leave us slightly altered to the person we were prior to reading.

Do we spend our wildcard as we read, or do we wait until the end of the day, reflect on all the stories we have read, and decide which story deserves our daily wildcard vote?

Do our wildcard votes show up on stories? And if so, are they anonymous, or can we see who nominated a story for a wildcard?

We all read a plethora of brilliant stories on Medium. But every so often, we read something that is mind and life-altering.

The wildcard is the people’s vote.

A wildcard could serve as a hook that latches onto the algorithm as it passes.

Or maybe stories with wildcards attributed to them could be reviewed by the powers that be at Medium for consideration of being selected for a Boost.
