Abstract

TRAVEL

How Do You Explain These Mysteries in Ireland?

I went to Ireland in 2016 and I’m still baffled about two things.

I’m still scratching my head, like this person! Photo by Pavel Danilyuk

I spent about a week in Ireland. Everything about the trip was perfect. The scenery was jaw-dropping and the food was delicious. There were just two things that baffled me. I was sifting through my travel photos over the weekend. To this day, I am still somewhat confused.

I hope someone can explain this to me.

The Strange Sink

I am super confused about this sink. I remember using it and switching quickly back and forth between the hot and cold water. Like a fool, I tried to use my elbows somehow, but that didn’t work. I don’t know why the faucet is so far apart! They also didn’t stay on, so it’s not like I could just leave one of the faucets running.

My hands were either scalded or frozen. No matter what I tried, I just couldn’t wash my hands properly. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

For the life of me, I couldn’t wash my hands…(photo provided by Linda Ng)

The Unreachable Button

All of the places we stayed at in Ireland were excellent. However, I saw this button just outside of the bathroom at one of the places. I suspected it might be the button to turn on the fan in the washroom, but I never found out what it did. Because it was too high!

Is this a child-safety feature? The sad thing was, I couldn’t get anywhere near the button. I guess I could have tried stepping on a chair. What is the button for? Is it a normal thing for bathrooms to have this?

Nope, couldn’t reach it! (photo provided by Linda Ng)

I’m pretty sure there are simple answers. I’m going to feel so dumb!

Anyhow, thanks for shedding any light on this! I love Ireland and had a blast there. I wouldn’t mind going again. I would just like to know how these two things work!
