BUSINESS MODELS
How Do We Design Business Models for Planet, People, and Prosperity?
An example of Wild Olive Farming in Greece

How do we design a business model? Well, it all starts with a little observation. And then we combine many aspects of what we already have available around us. Easy peasy.
Opportunities for cluster business models are everywhere!
And we need them desperately if we want to create vibrant economies full of scope and goodies. Full of health. And happy people.
I’m a systemic designer. I design human systems. Economies. Societies. And business models. We always start from the core. And make sure the model has permeable skin so many other systems can be attached to it.
The complete picture makes the model. For vibrant areas and healthy and happy people and other species.
Economies of Scope
We always design our models with scope instead of scale. We combine many elements. We make sure about Planet, People, and Prosperity. And we always design an open model so other businesses and citizens can tap into the goodies too.
And the whole area benefits.
Have a look at how we designed the business models for the farmers, olive oil producers, and healthy ecotourism in Greece.
We are going to do some Wild Olive Farming here!
Some elements of the business model:
- We looked around us and immediately saw the opportunities for Wild Olive Farming in this Greek biome. What’s a biome? It’s the natural ecosystem plus human culture. All our business model designs, local or international, start from a biome
- Greece, even though quite small, holds 3rd place among olive oil-producing companies. As much as 70% of all production is Extra Virgin Olive Oil. And the production methods are of a qualitatively high standard
- There’s an EU health claim for high phenolic olive oil. This high phenolic content appears when the olives are farmed in a wild way. The result is proven to be very healthy for all people. It can be ethically branded in the export medicine market
- In Greece, an easy method for testing high phenolic olive content has been developed by Aristoleo
- Half of the harvest will be sold for normal prices via local shops so local people benefit from the health increase too. Triple bottom line business models always combine MARGIN with ACCESS
- Ecotourism entrepreneurs can build their business models on the complete branding of the region as a healthy region
- Everything starts with ecosystem restoration to increase the carrying capacity of the earth. Inoculated biochar and crushed volcanic rock are all it takes to restore soil and tree health
- We educate the farmers to transform their farms into ecologically intensified agroforests with extra crops. We can add herbs or climbers. We can even add phytofarming, which is the harvesting of minerals and metals out of plants. In the Greek biome, we can harvest nickel if the farmers wish to do so
- There’s a high margin for exports of the high phenolic olive oil (up to 75 euro per bottle for rich people who want it as medicine). We always build our business models with margin AND access though. We don’t want the goodies, the health benefits, to go to rich people only
- The rest of the harvest goes for normal prices to the local shelves to ensure good health of locals and further development of the region as a healthy eco-tourism area
- We will ensure general branding of the healthy region (Peleponnese/Greek Organic with a cool slogan and lots of social media attention) so competition between the farmers becomes cooperation between all entrepreneurs
We really hope these kinds of business models help to bring young, ambitious people back to this rural area in Greece and give young families the opportunity to raise their children here.
We do not only create farmer’s jobs with our business models. There will be swarm drone development for modern harvesting as well. And bio labs for testing the high phenol content and to do further research and development on phytomining.
Universities will be involved. Schools will be involved. A whole wealth of education will be emerging here.
Loads of opportunities with just one idea.
