How Do I Post Every Day On Medium?
3 Tips to help you consistently post content on Medium
Since starting on Medium around three months ago, I have posted over 180 times. I’m happy with this, and not just because I have consistently written and published for 90 days. It’s because it’s the first thing I’ve truly stuck to. The one thing that I can say I have consistently done and put my full effort into.
With writing on Medium I have left everything I have on the page. Every piece of effort I could’ve put in, I have.
And I’m proud of myself for that. I could’ve folded in November when it wasn’t looking great. I could’ve become demotivated after getting banned, still don’t know why either. I could even stop posting as much now my account’s growth has seemingly completely halted.
But why would I? I’m helping people and that feeling is brilliant. I’ve made friends, and built a community where I publish other’s work, how cool is that! So, I’ve posted 2+ posts per day for 90 days, how? Here’s how.
Take Breaks
Don’t underestimate this tip because it doesn't sound fancy. Walking away from the screen when it just isn’t happening, is absolutely fine. I’d encourage it, you may even get some inspiration as you go do something to take your mind off it. Taking a break from writing when things aren’t flowing is always a good idea.
You can work on something else you need to do, tidy up, watch a movie, cook, or even just sit in silence and fart occasionally.
They are much better uses of your time than hoping a magic wish will fill the screen with words.
Read
Reading others’ work is a goldmine for content ideas and has helped me ensure that I’ve never missed a day. Whether it’s articles, comments, or someone’s entire profile, there are potential post ideas around every corner on Medium.
And this stretches outside of Medium too. While scrolling on social media keep your writer's brain turned on, low power mode, of course, and jot down anything that you find interesting while you are casually browsing.
Routine
Getting yourself into a routine is crucial. It no longer feels like “Crap I need to write a post before I sleep” It eventually just feels like “I need to write a post before I sleep”.
It just becomes engrained in you. It gets easier, it becomes natural and it’s simple to build a routine. Just push through times when you don’t feel like doing it and after a fortnight you won’t even remember ever feeling like that.
This applies to everything you want to make a habit too, not just Medium.
