Cannot Write? Try These Tips!
They Could Help You Write Better

All of us here get writer’s block, some day or the other. It happens when we write articles for medium, a website, magazine or even when we write short stories or novels. It’s normal and we should not let it deter us. But we should take steps to combat it and use our time to do more productive things.
It can be very dejecting and, in some cases, we feel totally useless. Even though I write historical fiction, you may think there is a lot of information to write from, which is true, but extracting a story out of it is hard. Sometimes, I just stare at the screen wondering what to write.
That was the same case when I was a student. I would stare at my books for a long time when I couldn’t study. I was told that even though I could not absorb the material I should still sit with my books. WRONG ADVICE! But I learned later in life — too late in fact, that it was wrong advice and when you cannot absorb anything, it means your brain is tired and needs rest. So, what you do is, you get up, go outside or do something else.
In the same way, when I want to write and cannot think of anything to write, like everyone else, I find it futile to just sit and rack my brains thinking of what to write. Writer’s block is a very bad feeling. Some writer’s do get depressed because of it. Instead of wasting time getting dejected and depressed, try these steps. At least one of them should work.
1.) Maybe try doing research for another article or another portion of your book or maybe for something else.
2.) You can also write another section of your book.
3.) If these tactics don’t work, get up and go for a walk. Fresh air helps unclog the cobwebs in your brain and gives you new ideas. I know, because it happens to me. Breathing in that fresh air helps clear your mind.
4.) You can also take a nap. Rest helps revitalize your brain, and you will feel better, refreshed and ready to take on the challenge. Sometimes, as you sleep, your subconscious mind will continue to work, and will help sort out the details of what you should write and you may wake up with new ideas.

5.) You can also take a shower. It can help soothe you and make you feel fresh.
6.) Also, do some house work. Do the dishes, laundry, iron clothes or cook. I am sure those chores need to be done. They are equally important and instead of wasting time staring at the screen not being productive, it is better to be productive somewhere else, doing something that needs to be done. After sometime, your gray cells in your head will start to work, you will get that inspiration to write and then those ideas will flow nonstop.
7.) Another thing you can try is maybe watch a movie or documentary or maybe read a magazine or novel, and you can get many ideas, probably better ideas.
So, try these tactics when you get writer’s block and remember you cannot buy time or get it back. Once time is gone, it’s gone forever. Might as well spend it doing something productive.
