How Digging In the Dirt Taught Me About Self Care — And Writing

“If you are looking for a happy place in the world, look to the benefits of gardening.” — Unknown

Like a robot vacuum stuck under the sofa, I was stuck. My capacity box was full and fulfillment box empty.

I gave myself ten days to explore new mechanisms to self care and, on day ten, found myself rejuvenated.

Humbled.

Inspired.

“Now, I know there is a science to gardening. I have no sort of a green thumb, but that is a part of the journey. Some will take, some won’t — and that’s okay.

I will learn.

I will evolve.

I will have grace with my garden — and with myself.”

In my garden, I have learned that patience is a virtue.

I have learned that sometimes you need to take a step back and let things grow. I have also learned to identify what is and what is not within my control.

All of these lessons apply to writing here on Medium.

Consider that — and share in the comments about a personal experience where you can relate.
