How Can You Change The World?

Finding Your “Why” Is Vital To Your Success

Photo by Miguel Castellanos on Unsplash

Finding your why is essential to your ability to be effective.

Simon Sinek is famous for his books Start With Why and Find Your Why, which explains how vital your why is to your ultimate success.

Finding your why — both as a person and as organizations has never been more important.

To find your own whys, ask yourself what is important to you.

Our deeply held values and beliefs help us define our whys.

Digging deep is essential.

When a person finds their whys, they are willing to sacrifice and persevere through the most challenging circumstances.

Lesson to Learn

Until you determine or reaffirm your why you may find it hard to reengage your work or everyday life.

Challenging times can call into question what we find valuable.

From time to time, it is important to reexamine our deeply held beliefs and values.

We need to brush off our mission statements as individuals and organizations to see if they still apply or if they need to be updated.

Our why is a powerful reminder of who we are and why we work so hard each day.

Answer for Me

I review my personal mission statement daily.

During this pandemic, I have had to update the way I intend to fulfil it.

I have had to develop new skills, reinvest in new learning, and listen to new voices.

My core values have remained the same. How I live them today has needed an update.

This revitalizes my life.

It helps me become a better husband, father, friend, and community leader.

I am grateful for the chance to grow and learn from this period of my life.

Action

What is your why?

What do you hold dear?

From your values and beliefs, you can determine your how.

Take out your mission statement. If you don’t have one, now may be an excellent time to develop one.

Your personal why and how is the way you get to make the world a better place for you and those you care about.

In a time of challenge, review your why and how routinely. It may be changing.

If so, don’t be afraid to acknowledge that it has and adjust accordingly.

Daily Habits

Remind yourself each day of who you are and what you value.

Reaffirm your personal mission and commitment to it.

Let others know your why.

Help others find their whys, and when appropriate, their hows.

When we are clear on our mission and work with others on joint missions, exceptional outcomes are possible.
