How Can I Reclaim Emotional Intimacy?

Photo by J'Waye Covington on Unsplash

For this week's prompt, I thought to write everything in a single article and publish it. So, the content of this article will be: -Authentic sharing of thoughts and feelings; -Strength in the face of pain/grief; -Honest, intentional communication.

I probably will mix a little bit of the three, don’t know yet, but if I do, just know that will be authentic, like a pizza coming out of the oven, with the fresh smell of the ingredients up in your nose (that is, if you haven’t Covid-19).

Can we have emotional intimacy?

My answer is yes, but we have to make a few adjustments. That is if we live in a traditional society in a traditional village, and living with only what our parents, or family, have told us, (living in a loop every year), without change a single thing, we can’t. In fact, if we have emotional intimacy, our family members will call us all the names in the Cambridge dictionary and more.

See, our society was built for us to bury our emotions, they told us that a man don’t cry, and all the stupid things you’ve heard.

But, if we change the way we see the world, with books, and learning something new every year, (or month, or week), we can rebuild a life with all the emotions we have deep inside of each of us.

It isn’t easy, but with the right strength, we can do that.

Have you ever think about why mental health is viral?

Because people starting to realize that they don’t want to live a loop of their parent's life, People look deep inside of their parents and see all of their dreams they used to have, and were forced to bury them, for some reason.

People start to think. People start to think, that when they were in bed, in their last days here on Earth, they will think about the things that they didn’t do, but they wanted. Maybe fear, or other some other reason.

People are seeing that the reason why there are so many people addicted to alcohol, tobacco, and drugs, is because those people need an escape from reality. Their reality is living in a loop, and they want to escape that, they don’t know more, (or choose not to do more), so they choose the easy way to escape from reality.

The human being was made to grow every year of their life (I think), if we don’t grow, we are losing.

I remember my last time when I got really drunk, it was New Year's Eve 2017, and back then I was lost, I didn’t have money, I was in a scam company. The only thing I had was books. I was counting every penny to live, and I’ve bought a bottle of Red Label for New Year’s Eve, and I drank the whole bottle. Back in the day I was a smoker and I was one until 2020 when I quit the damn addiction, (at least, from 2017 to 2020 I was decreasing the number of cigarettes I smoked). From now on I don’t need an escape from reality, I love life, I want to enjoy every single day. The only alcohol I drink is beer, and it’s only on special days, I’m happy with water.

I started to read more, and understand what I’ve read. I’ve started writing two years after 2017, and I’ll never stop. I started to listen to my mind, follow my intuition. I started to have realistic goals, and make those goals a reality.

I started having money on my bank account, (not a millionaire, but an amount that let me live comfortably), I now know what my expenses are, and have a fund for unexpected expenses.

We can and we should be emotional, at least balance between emotional and rational, we can be both if we work ourselves hard enough. Balance is the key.

What people don’t understand (those who call names for the ones who choose to be emotional and choose not to live the loop our parents live), is that what we do, we receive. Of course, they are unhappy, they do unhappy things, like insulting those who chose to live differently, meanwhile, the people who chose to live differently are happy because they understand the basics of Karma.

Conclusion

Yes, we can reclaim our emotional intimacy, with introspection, with hard work, we can change the way our society is living. We have, also, to have ouvidos moucos, (it’s a Portuguese expression, it means, we have to be deaf), because other people will call ourselves all possible and imaginable names.
