I Just Examined My Writing Process — I Guess It Comes With Experience

I was cleaning off my desk, preparing for the next phase of the day when I noticed a sentence I wrote in an email that I intended to develop later. As I closed the open windows on my desktop, there it was, sitting there all by itself. I giggled. I had just written a 500 word article based on that single sentence.

Your writing prompts are all over the place. You are surrounded by them. Sometimes, you just have to listen to yourself or to your surroundings.

Look out the window right now. What do you see? I see a pole and the first thing that popped into my mind was the TikTok video I saw where a guy climbed up an old tree to cut it down. The voiceover said, this is what happens when one tree is cut down and another one is planted.

The video showed the guy cutting the tree and once the top of it fell, it landed straight up in the ground. I didn’t think much about that video much after I saw it, but once I looked out my window, just as I asked you to do, there was inspiration standing there in front of me. Now, I am not suggesting that you write about polls and trees, but then again, some people have a passion for those things.

No matter where you are or what you are going, there’s inspiration all around you. Don’t ignore your environment. It could be filled with creative and suggestive ideas.

Give that a try. Let me know what you come up with.
