INNOVATION

Hot Lemonade vs. Hot Tea

What to do with a 2-year supply of lemons from our tree? Hot lemonade was surprisingly good!

Whoever heard of Hot Lemonade? I hadn’t.

Usually, I drink iced tea. Recently, I had a sinus infection and switched to hot tea. I make a large pot of tea daily, then mix tea 50–50 with hot water in a 12-oz insulated glass. I add an ice cube if it is too hot. I don’t like boiling hot drinks.

All those lemons

We have a two-year supply of beautiful lemons on our tree but use only a little on fish and shrimp. Most will rot. I wondered what a hot lemon drink similar to tea would be like. I squeezed the juice from 1/8th lemon, added a tiny bit of sugar, then half cold tap water and half boiling hot water.

Surprise!

The hot lemon drink is great. My wife tried it with the same misgivings, but also thought it was much better than expected. We are both drinking 2 or 3 glasses per day.

None of those lemons will rot on the tree.
