Homeschooling, It isn’t What You Think
Here is how to learn about it.

New to Homeschooling? Thinking about Homeschooling but need more information?
Your first thought might be to go and ask someone at the local public (government) school for information about homeschooling; after all, they are the people who know everything about teaching kids, right?
Actually, no. There is no reason for schooling staff and administrators to know even one drop about Homeschooling. It is not their field of expertise and is likely to NEVER be even on their radar except as a threat to their employment, which it isn’t.
So, where do you go to get information about Homeschooling?
Go to the Homeschooling community.
Do an internet search for “your town, suburb, region, state” + “homeschool, homeschooling, home education”. What you are looking for is websites and blogs created by homeschoolers where they are sharing information about homeschooling in general and/or stories of their family’s journey.
Do the same search on FB, YT, and any other social media platform you are on looking for the same results. You are looking for veterans, experienced homeschooling families, and community groups.
Go to the library and search the catalog for “homeschooling” and “home education”. You are looking for books written by veteran homeschoolers about their journey and books about homeschooling in general that talk about different styles, philosophies, and outcomes of homeschooling.
On Spotify or any other platform where you listen to podcasts, again search “homeschooling or home education” and see what comes up.
There is no lack of opportunities to learn from veteran homeschoolers who are sharing their stories through all the various media outlets.
After you have found and joined a local homeschooling group, go to their park day meet-up or some other meet-up they have coming up. Introduce yourself and sit in on the conversations. Ask questions. These are your people.
These are the people who know homeschooling best because they are living it every day.
Every single parent who is now a veteran homeschooler was once exactly where you are now. And most of the time, they will happily share what they have learned along the way.
They know how you feel because they felt that way too — totally overwhelmed, fearful, uncertain, and yet looking for something different, something better than what the schools are offering.
