Homemade Meaty Spaghetti Sauce
A rich meaty spaghetti sauce that compliments any pasta or zucchini noodles
This is another one of my favorite recipes. This rich meaty sauce can be used for spaghetti, lasagna, or any recipe that calls for spaghetti sauce.
I am including a jarred spaghetti sauce hack recipe and a homemade from scratch spaghetti sauce recipe. Let’s face it, homemade is always the best, but sometimes life gets in the way, and you need something quick and easy that still tastes good.
The picture above is the homemade spaghetti sauce recipe.
Homemade Meaty Spaghetti Sauce
Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef or a combination of 1/2 pound of ground beef, 1/2 pound of Italian sausage.
1 small onion-diced
2 teaspoons minced garlic, or 4 cloves minced or finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 15 ounce can of crushed tomatoes
1 8 ounce can of tomato sauce
1 14.5 ounce can of diced tomatoes with garlic, oregano, basil
1 tablespoon of sugar
2 teaspoons of dried oregano
Instructions:
- Cook meat, onion and garlic over medium heat until no longer pink, chopping it as it cooks. Drain off excess grease.
- Add all the remaining ingredients, stirring to combine.
- Bring to a boil, then turn it to low and let simmer for 20 minutes. Longer if you can, 30–45 minutes is best. The longer it simmers, the more taste it develops. After you put it on low, if it starts to bubble, turn it down lower.
- Serve over your favorite pasta, garnish with a little Parmesan cheese.
You can get creative with this recipe, adding green peppers or mushrooms. You can use all ground beef, all Italian sausage, or half and half. If you want a little spice, I use 1–2 teaspoons of crushed red pepper flakes.

I usually serve either recipe with a simple salad and garlic bread, always a family favorite. Either one of these recipes is great in making lasagna or baked ziti. I have also used it over zucchini noodles for a low carb meal.
I hope you enjoy these recipes!
