Abstract

The article titled "Homage to Resilience on a Global Scale" poetically contemplates the paradox of a planet that is both resilient and fragile, enduring despite humanity's heavy carbon footprint and exploitative actions. It marvels at the Earth's ability to maintain its vitality and adaptability, showcasing characteristics such as plasticity, elasticity, and 'bouncebackability'. The piece draws a parallel between the Earth's resilience and the human capacity for recovery and survival, as exemplified by the ten words provided for a poetry challenge: strength, resilience, flexibility, fragility, plasticity, elasticity, hardness, adaptability, bouncebackability, and alive. The article is inspired by Marla Bishop and her IdeaStream, encouraging readers to nurture their own resilience.

How does a resilient, yet fragile, planet, with a heavy carbon footprint, develop some plasticity, elasticity, solar electricity, and some good old flexibility with all the hardness we’ve shown it — we who tried to own it, gouge it, drain it, and while we can’t explain it, squander its wealth to line our pockets, even though it’s killing us?

Yet does she show strength laden with adaptability, from our plunder, more bouncebackability, showing us tranquility, in her will to stay alive and thrive!

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound…
