Weekends: Your Gateway to Self-Discovery

Sometimes it’s not easy to get through the weekend.

In general, it should be the time we rest and recharge our energy to start a new week. Some people simply hate weekends. They fear his arrival!

The weekends make them feel strange and out of place, and they don’t know what to do with themselves.

“Weekends are a bit like rainbows; they look good from a distance but disappear when you get up close to them.” — John Shirley

Surely, you also know people who keep themselves busy. Out of fear of being alone with their thoughts. Those relatives who clean excessively, cook a lot, that uncle who repairs his car that hasn’t been used in a long time, and which is well-maintained anyway.

A question that has been repeatedly asked of me is:

“What do we do about holiday or weekend blues?”

From the beginning, we must realize that this depression doesn’t arise just because the holidays are approaching; it has been there throughout the entire year.

Depression can be like a hand on the shoulder, telling us to pause, reflect, and make changes in our lives.” — Carl Jung

Often, over time, we’ve managed somehow to hide, mask, and deny it.

However, during the weekends and holidays, a space is created where we are removed from our daily routine, mental agitation, and everyday activities, confronting something we’ve been avoiding all year.

It’s important to know that there are several types of depression, including clinical depression and existential depression.

Suffering from existential depression is normal and can even be beneficial. Why do I say that?

“When you face existential depression, it’s a sign that your soul is urging you to pay attention to your authentic life and deep values.” — Irvin D. Yalom

Because when you have this existential depression, it comes and conveys its message by posing the following questions:

“Do you truly live the life you desire?”

“What specifically brings you happiness?”

“How mentally exhausted are you? Are you experiencing burnout or not?”

“Have you defined a mission and vision for your life?

Which are my deep objectives or dreams that truly reflect what matters to me?

How would I like to be remembered by those around me?

What are the moments from the past when I felt truly authentic and fulfilled?

What would I do if I knew I couldn’t fail?

We don’t have to fear existential depression; instead, we should see it as an opportunity. It’s a chance to change something about how we are and become authentic.

Deep down, we all want to be relaxed and happy.

We all want to have time for ourselves, to learn new things, and to feel connected with our life partner and family.

However, working on ourselves is challenging, and we often don’t do it.

Sooner or later, reality catches up with us and shows us where we’re going wrong in our lives. It points out where changes are needed.

We need to start living our lives according to the values and principles that guide us.

I know it may seem very challenging to make this change.

But it’s unnecessary, and I don’t believe it’s possible to change everything all at once.

We start slowly, gradually changing things in our lives.

We can aim to make a 10% positive change for ourselves next year, and that would be wonderful and give us the motivation to increase this percentage in the following years.

It’s better to start with a little and stick to it than to want to do a lot and never get started.

Tell me if you, too, have decided in the new year to live your life as you feel it and not as others around you say.

A holistic approach from a man with solid experience as a project manager and engineer in the field of project management and quality management. I have coordinated a variety of projects in real estate, construction, IT, marketing, and design.
