Hold My Hand: Fifty Years of Walking

The day was warm and fragrant
Everything looked beautiful
You were simple and ignorant
And I was young and joyful.
The word ‘date’ was unknown
We were out in the forest land
Quietly you held my hand
Slowly, to you was I drawn.
Those were the days of romance
Little did we know how to dance
To the tune of music called life
Waiting with unknown vibe.
Your trembled hand was held in mine
When the priest chanted verses divine
Declared us as husband and wife
To set out on our journey of life
Images were captured in black and white
The lights of wedding night shone so bright
The path ahead was difficult and hard
Yet you held my hand like a faithful bard.
The summers were scorching with pain
With hardship followed monsoon rain
There were days of flowery spring
Without knowing what’s waiting.
You made my life worth living
Never to feel lonely or unforgiving
Forever I’d look for your hand
On this earth and the life beyond.
