FICTION|WRITING CHALLENGE|NOVEMBER

Hodgepodge Challenge — No 7

Anything that can go wrong — WILL— Themed Challenge

Monster trucks - AI image using Midjourney

Happy “hump day!”

This is the beginning of the November Hodgepodge Challenge with a special bonus to boost your points! Can you take/keep the lead??

I’ve made a somewhat tough decision to dial back the challenges to twice a month (the first and third Wednesdays) after my mom passed, an incredible amount of ongoing family drama, and overwhelming stress as a result.

With that said, the challenges will be, well, more challenging and more exciting! Are you ready?! Pull up your britches and let’s start writing!

You may partake in any of the challenges at any time. Tag me and I will add your story to that month’s line-up! Points will be awarded only during the current month’s challenge.

Who doesn’t love a good provocation to get the creative juices flowing?!

Writing prompt choices

(1 point each or 2 points for using both prompts):

  1. Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. (Show us Murphy’s Law in action!) A.K.A — when it rains, it pours!
  2. When the going gets tough — the tough flee! (Why??)

Elements to include

(1 point each):

  • A trampoline
  • A Monster Truck
  • A dossier
  • A fabricated holiday — what is its purpose?
  • Food of your choice — real or made up

(2 points):

  • Someone is singing a song — include a portion!

Bonus: 1 point for each portmanteau (blending 2 words into one, ex: smoke + smog = smog) — for a maximum of 5 pts (5 portmanteaus)

That is a possible 14 points!

Ground Rules

  1. Use one or both prompt choices.
  2. Include as many elements as possible.
  3. Try to keep submissions between 100 and 1,000 words.
  4. Tag me so I can read your story and add it to the next publication!
  5. Challenge your fellow (competitive) writers!
  6. Publish where you choose but consider The Fictioneer’s Treasure Trove.
Please list your prompts and elements (shortened)in a box like this. (Ctrl + Alt + 6) Thank you!

I extend this challenge to Jonathon Sawyer and Camilla Seth. I hope you join the fun!
