FICTION|WRITING CHALLENGE

Hodgepodge Challenge — No 10

New resolutions!— Themed Challenge

New Year’s party — AI image using NightCafe

Happy “hump day!”

This will be the only January Hodgepodge Challenge as I try to recover from months of burnout. Can you take/keep the lead??

Grab a resolution-friendly treat and let’s start plotting!

You may partake in any of the challenges at any time. Points will be awarded only during the current month’s challenge.

Who doesn’t love a good provocation to get the creative juices flowing?!

New Year’s Bonus:

You can partake in this challenge as often as you want throughout January — racking up points each time!!

Writing prompt choices

(2 points for using either):

  1. The consequences of a resolution cause someone to be famous.
  2. The consequences of a resolution inadvertently cause your character or best friend to land in jail/the stocks.

Elements to include

(1 point each):

  • An accident of sorts transports you into another world
  • A scary-looking beast is super friendly (you create it!)
  • Something splits into two separate entities/objects
  • You experience a new food/drink for the first time — describe it!
  • A glowing book

Bonus: 1 point for continuing from any previous story.

Bonus: 1 point for including your pet in the story and/or photo at the end!

That is 9 potential points for each submission!

Ground Rules

  1. Use one or both prompt choices.
  2. Include as many elements as possible.
  3. Try to keep submissions between 100 and 1,000 words.
  4. Tag me so I can read your story and add it to the next publication!
  5. Challenge your fellow (competitive) writers!
  6. Publish where you choose but consider The Fictioneer’s Treasure Trove.
Please list your prompts and elements (shortened)in a box like this.
(Ctrl + Alt + 6) Thank you!

I extend this challenge Anthony David Vernon, Mike Hickman, Steve Vernon, and Thomon Summer — I hope you have time to rise to the challenge!
