Hello, I’m Fred, and I write on the Medium Platform with the nom-de-plume Fred-Almost-Famous. This is my short mini bio. You’ll find a link to my Full Bio in the end navigation panel where you’ll also find other useful links.

My Navigation Panel is at the end of each story I write including this one.

Now to my mini-bio: The Hitch Hikers’ Guide to My Profile: Academically qualified in Science & Education, I’ve had a long career in that arena — with world-wide experience. During my life’s journey I also acquired qualifications in Theology. I am now retired, but active as a writer, storyteller, and occasional speaker, living in Australia.

I was born and raised during the 1940s & 50s in Oldham, then a highly-polluted cotton town in England’s North-west.

I became aware at an early age that academic qualifications were not fully-understood in that working-class environment, yet somehow, they were revered. They were held in high regard, but warily acknowledged!

Meet My Grandma Mary:

*************************

I once overheard my Grandma, Mary Ogden, saying this about my cousin Joan:

“Our Joan has now got letters after her name”

She said that with real pride in her voice.

It was ‘a first’ for our family!

What would she say now if she could see my ‘letters’?

“Fred Ogden CBiol; MRSB; BSc (Hons); Tech TC; PGCE … etc.”

Of course, as you and I both know, qualifications don’t necessarily point to a quality life. So, for a glimpse of how I’ve managed my ‘letters’, and how my professional life has developed, here is a dot-point list of some of my ‘achievements’ to complete this simple mini-bio … my profile:

- International Educator (England, Lesotho, Kiribati, PNG, and Australia) covering Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Teaching, and Teacher-Training.

· Science & Education Adviser (England and Lesotho).

· Teacher-Trainer (England, Lesotho, Kiribati, and PNG).

· Gold Medal Award: For communicating the appeal and excitement of science (Australia).

· Senior Lecturer & Teacher of Science, Chemistry, Health, Biology (Evolution & Genetics Specialism), and Science Education.

· Assistant Director Australian National Education Office

· Coordinator University Open-Learning Network, Australia

Having interests in Science, Education, Theology and Philosophy, my stories are an eclectic mix, reflecting my world-wide experience and I hope also … my thinking!

Oh yes … I nearly forgot: After more-or-less retiring from the above academic existence, I studied ‘Real Estate Agency Practice’; obtained a Real Estate License in Australia’s Queensland, and set up my own real estate company which I ran for some 15 years before finally retiring (properly this time?) to think, garden, and to take up writing short stories. I was 80 by then!!

Extra note re my Full Bio: I’ve woven all into my varied experiences into my FULL Bio so that it comes alive, and is enriched with creative inspiration. It’s much more than a CV.
