High Tea
A Haibun on the prompt: “woodlands”
The crunch of dried leaves under the feet, the narrow man-made path through the green carpet, specs of brilliant blue mingling with orange — visible through awnings of the trees; the setting sun streaming its rays in between the dewy shadows. The chirping of the crickets mingling with the silence of the evening; together they created the enchanting Sound of Silence. The willowy trees whispering pleasantries, a sotto voce, the leaves rustling in the breeze, the wind giving little sighs as it stopped to have a cuppa, the butterflies saying hello — it was the time of Nature’s high tea.

Inspired by Somsubhra Banerjee, this is my first attempt at Haibun, (a disclaimer: might not have gotten it right) a prosimetric literary form, combining prose and haiku. A Haibun may record a scene, or a special moment, in a highly descriptive and objective manner or may occupy a wholly fictional or dream-like space. Generally, a Haibun consists of one or more paragraphs of prose written in a concise, imagery style, and one or more haiku.
