Hey You! Don’t Waste Your Time! Switch Off The Cam And Get Into The Most Exclusive Virtual Club!
Too shy for a Facebook live? Sick of not getting followers on Twitter? Tired of getting dressed up and pulled together without leaving your room? Join the most booming and simple social app!
It’s corona time. Nothing to do tonight.
A friend calls you up. She invites you to join a room to chitchat about Pink Floyd, your favorite band.
Why not.
A great conversation about music and lyrics is going on. You listen for a while then you start to share your thoughts.
It is easy. Everybody is very polite, good vibes.
Who is entering the room?
You cannot believe what you hear: Roger is there, telling anecdotes and answering questions.
What a memorable night!
That is what could happen in Clubhouse!
So what is it?
Clubhouse is a real-time, simple, and clean voice interaction media.
That is how Paul Davidson (entrepreneur) and Rohan Seth (engineer) have placed their dare to big social media giants, who were busy fighting back TikTok.

The fact is that Minimalism is getting to the hype, and Clubhouse fits perfectly in there: no editing, no sound effect, no transition, no video, no text. Flexibility is the mantra: talk-shows, interviews, music, big discussion groups. You can listen, and if you have something to say, you can raise your hand, and you will get the chance to go on air. So if you were excited to get a follow, a comment, or a like from your favorite influencer, can you imagine talking to them? That is what happened to around 5000 funs when Elon Musk popped up a few days ago in one of these rooms.
Let us look at some numbers to give you an idea of what you are missing out, if not yet in there: launched in March 2020, it spread with incredible speed within the Venture Capitals community. The project was so appealing to get 12MUSD after two months, and when it reached 1500 users was already worth $100 million.
How does it work?
Everybody on the platform can open a room, a virtual place where the discussion happens. The room can be Open (everybody who surfs the app can join), Social (only for connections), or Closed (aka private based on the direct invite). There is no time limitation to the discussion, but you can enter and leave very silently.

Two more things that make this app special:
- It is available only for i-Phone,
- To get in, you need an invite.
After all, it is a club.
Open rooms have become a fabulous way to facilitate viral aggregation around specific topics. A room can reach an average of 600 users with an average of 20–30 speakers.
Why this success?
We live in a connected world; we connect in more ways than ever before. Although on paper this can help in times when social distancing and lockdown have become by far the trendiest words, we are missing the magic, that serendipity effect that makes our day special (I wrote about it here).
We have less and less space for ourselves. Our life runs with meetings back to back. We live the paradox of not meeting anybody without being alone, dressing up, and pulling ourselves together without even getting out of our place. We need a “place” into ourselves, a way of stimulating our imagination to fill gaps that words leave around. Listening, more than watching, makes the story ours, turning on the most collaborative process among people. Sound, text, music melt together, creating a deep, emotional connection.
The solution is there. By switching off video and text, Clubhouse creates a soft ambiance, bringing back intimacy to our lives.
And that is not a small thing!
