Hey Writers, Do You Have The Same Struggles As I Have As a Writer
Greetings fellow authors,
Hope you all are doing great and writing great content.
“Writing is a master craft in the finest art, the loneliest profession in the most social science, the most influential medium in the toughest industry, yet is the most under-rated profession.”
- Author: Grant McLachlan
Writing is a tough and challenging job. Are writers given that amount of appreciation as they deserve?
In my culture, people don’t see writing as a profession. They more see this as a type of hobby than a good and stable profession.
I believe that writing is most underrated profession and writers are the most underrated people.
Many people have told me that writing is not that hard, it’s so easy job to do.
I do not agree with them. Writing is not an easy job, it takes commitment, desire, hard work, and lots of hours spent attempting to focus on gathering and writing the words.
When it comes to focus, writing is a tough job because you are required to think a lot in this profession. A minor distraction can left you with a blank mind and blank sheet.
Before we write anything, we have to create all those plots and characters into our imagination before we pen them on paper. It takes hours of imagination and creativity, to write one scenario.
Anyone can write a sentence.
But, when you have to write and collect all the sentences to make an incredible story is what makes writing a tough job.
Writing is a creative profession. Some days are great and others are hard. I still remember those days when penning down words on paper seemed so effortless. And some days when you are trying so hard but it’s hard to write a single sentence.
The struggle that I face as a writer is, it’s hard to write without inspiration.
As I said, every day is not the same day. Every day is not a day full of inspiration and good moments. Sometimes life puts you in a situation when you struggle to get inspiration.
Sometimes, I spent my whole day just finding inspiration. I don’t know if anyone has faced these things or not, but I face them a lot in my life.
I believe with inspiration, everything seems easy whether it’s life or writing. I can do everything effortlessly when I am truly inspired.
As I am a writer who mostly writes on motivational topics and believes me it’s hard to stay motivated all the time.
So, you might wonder how I handle this.
I relax and don’t force myself because writing isn’t a thing that you can do it forcefully. It needs to come naturally.
When I find it hard, to get inspiration. I take a break and try new things.
“Writing really is a difficult craft and there are many parts to master.”
- Author: James Johnson
I believe there is only one way to master writing and that is practice.
Believe me, waking up every day and sitting on your desk to start writing is the toughest thing you have to do every day to become a master writer.
You are not going to write a great story one day, your story will automatically become great when you finished writing thousands of stories.
Another thing I do when I don’t write is to read.
"Read, read, read. Read everything -- trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! You’ll absorb it. Then write. If it’s good, you’ll find out. If it’s not, throw it out of the window." --William Faulkner
Reading helps you a lot in writing. When you read other people’s work, you find inspiration. I started beliving that reading is a full of time job of any writer. To write well, you have to read a lot. When you read different types of work, it helps you to have a unique perspective. We all writers write on the same topic but we all have different approch and perspective to write on the same topic.
I hope you enjoyed this piece.
I would like to invite some of the great writers of Medium to share about their struggles as a writer.
