Here’s Why You Need To Celebrate Your Small Victories

Small things are a big deal

The great victory, which appears so simple today, was the result of a series of small victories that went unnoticed.~Paulo Coelho

We are resilient, courageous beings. We face a plethora of challenges with grace and dignity every day. Some of us face enormous difficulties, and still give time and effort to others.

Do you realize how much you pulled off today? Think of the little things. They’re a big deal. We don’t always acknowledge our small wins. It’s important to give yourself credit for doing life every single day.

Did you wake up earlier than desired to prepare for work? Did you help your children get ready for school? Think of the strength and focus it takes to do those things. And you keep doing it.

I’m a single parent. One of my kids will have a meltdown and I gracefully manage to hold space for them. I try to remember how well I handle difficult situations. I paid for groceries with three different cards today. I stayed calm and everything worked out.

I could be dead by now. I used to drink and use drugs. I placed myself in dangerous situations almost daily. I’ve been clean and sober nearly 17 years, one day at a time. Now I do things like fold laundry and cook dinner every night. I’m proud of myself for caring enough to seek help for my addiction.

I take care of myself in every way. I’m willing to grow along spiritual lines. I’m open to showing myself loving-kindness. Everyone else in my life benefits from these actions.

Why pay attention to the little things? They make a big difference for you and countless others. Did you get up this morning? Right on. That’s a good start.

Here are some reasons to notice the small wins and celebrate big time.

You deserve it

We all deserve kudos for our accomplishments. We are worthy of a celebration for doing the deal. Many of us don’t give ourselves enough credit. US culture, in particular, tends to expect a lot from us. Our societal expectations are too high. You don’t have to try so hard. You’re doing enough. You are enough.

You deserve to celebrate contributions to your community and our planet. I see what you’ve been doing. I see you pick up trash on your way home. I notice when you buy a special treat for your kids with your last five bucks.

You deserve a thank you. If someone else hasn’t already done so, give yourself some appreciation.

You’ll feel good about yourself

Give yourself a break for being human, and you’ll feel a lot better about yourself. You might not see your gifts. If you take a minute, you’ll know how the small things add up.

It’s important to build self-esteem through self-acknowledgment. You’ll be able to navigate hard times with ease because you believe in yourself.

I hear folks being too hard on themselves. It’s not helpful. You deserve the best. Treat yourself well and you’ll feel better.

You keep building your confidence

Once we take notice of our everyday offerings, we soar with confidence. Then we have more to give. Our energy will increase. We can be of service to others. When a challenge comes our way, we’ll know we can handle it. We’ve done it before. Nothing can stop us.

Your confidence rises with your level of self-love. Focus on what you’re doing right. Acknowledge you’re a badass.

You’re inspired to keep going forward

Let’s face it, some days we get rotten lemons. So much for making lemonade. But we can bury them and grow a lemon tree. There’s always something good available to us.

When we look at our blessings in disguise, all the things we thought were difficult can become opportunities. Everything’s going to work out. We’ll keep trudging and see what’s next. Did you know trudge means ‘walk with purpose?’ Our challenging life situation has a purpose. You have a purpose.

Stay inspired by recognizing your inherent strength through any adversity. You’re stronger than you may know.

You’ll feel happy and content

It feels good to acknowledge our wins. Small things are a huge deal. You’re bound to feel happy about handling your business so well. Knowing how much you give each day will bring you indescribable joy.

Happiness comes with recognizing our resiliency and ability to roll with whatever life throws our way. I feel amazing when I stop and think of how far I’ve come.

Final thoughts

Can you imagine how life would be if we always congratulated ourselves for pursuing greatness every day? How wonderful to celebrate small victories like doing the dishes when you’re depressed. Anyone suffering from depression knows the noteworthiness of finishing small tasks. You practice self-discipline by writing when you wanted to watch a movie. Or you spoke your truth when you were uncomfortable.

If you’re willing to pause and reflect, you’ll see your amazing accomplishments, big and small. Don’t discount the little things. They’re more significant than you may realize.

We don’t have to engage in grand, heroic actions to participate in the process of change. Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world.~Howard Zinn
