Here’s One Easy Way To Become a Better Person
Let’s not overcomplicate things…

Most people want to improve.
It’s rare you meet someone who’s cool with staying the same or getting worse (from a holistic perspective).
This is the easiest way I’ve found to become a better person.
Here’s what you can do
I’m resisting the urge to make this more complicated than it needs to be.
Do things that build character.
There are many ways to do this. Your only limit is your creativity.
This may sound broad, but that’s because every one of us is different. You know yourself best and can come up with plenty of things that would build character.
Here are some things that have helped me build character in the past:
- Writing
- Getting laid off
- Learning jiu jitsu
- Mentoring others
- Starting a business
- Traveling by myself
- Studying philosophy
- Learning to meditate
- Learning new languages
- Working in the service industry
- Dealing with life-changing injuries
- Asking questions in front of an audience (even if I worry about looking stupid)
I want you to notice something about the list above. Not everything on there is positive.
Getting injured and having to undergo multiple surgeries was one of the hardest moments in my life. But overcoming that challenge and being forced to develop a different identity helped me build character.
Don’t seek out bad things.
But don’t shy away from hard endeavors either.
Come up with a list of things that would help you build character. Get creative here. Think about things that you’re well suited for or that you could see yourself doing long-term.
At the beginning, it might not be fun. You’ll probably suck when you first start out. But if you stick with it over the years, you may find it rewarding.
If you approach things with the right perspective, you can build character from the good and the bad.
Another simple exercise
Picture the person you want to become. What does he or she look like? How do they spend their days? Who do they spend time with? What do they think about? What do they not think about?
Let these questions guide you.
Ask yourself what that best version of you does.
Then, do those things.
It probably won’t feel comfortable. But feeling comfortable isn’t the point.
You can improve your situation in life. Don’t let your own thoughts or other people’s opinions impose limits on yourself.
Decide who you want to be. Then do what they would do.
If you do this over a long period of time, you’ll eventually look back in awe at how much you’ve grown.
