Here’s How to Apply for Newsbreak’s $1,000 Grant Program
I just applied. Here are the details.

If you’re a writer or video creator on NewsBreak, you may have received an email about their new grant program. I’ve been a writer for NewsBreak for about a year and a half, and this is the first time I’ve seen them offer this type of grant to contributors.
According to NewsBreak, the grant is “a new opportunity for contributors to fund their local journalism efforts in 2022.”
Who can apply?
You must be an approved NewsBreak Contributor. This includes both writers and video creators.
Unfortunately for NewsBreak creators that live outside of the U.S., this is a U.S.-based program. You must live in the U.S. to apply.
You also need to have submitted at least five stories or videos that have been approved and published. And don’t even think about submitting more than one application. NewsBreak says if you do this, you may be disqualified.
How much is the grant?
Grants will be awarded between $250 and $1,000.
When is the deadline?
NewsBreak is accepting applications through May 15, 2022. After I applied, I received a message that I would hear back about their decision by May 16th.
What else should you know?
NewsBreak is primarily focused on local U.S. stories. They are looking for content from creators that live within the communities they write about.
NewsBreak gives examples of the sort of funding requests they are considering here.
