Here’s an EXCELLENT Way to Let Readers Know When You Reply to their Comments!
Do you use this simple little writing tip when viewing your story responses?
Today, I’m writing to share some awesome writing advice that can help writers stay connected to their followers and fans.
I have an excellent way for writers on Medium to reply to those readers who leave responses on various stories.
New writers are not the only ones who realize what a tedious, but necessary activity this can be, when you truly want to show appreciation to loyal readers.
It’s not tedious because it’s a difficult task, or that you don’t like the idea of talking to other Medium members.
It’s tedious because it’s such a never-ending task, that you never seem to have enough time or energy to do it effectively.
- Personally, I love talking and interacting with my fellow Medium writers.
- I appreciate the followers and fans, and those who bother to subscribe and become loyal readers.
- I enjoy reading a comment that compels me to reply to the reader in a genuine way.
But I also have a hard time trying to keep up, and pay even a little attention to a whole lot of supportive readers, particularly those who like to leave comments.

How to leave a reply for readers who comment
You may or may not already be using the following method, but to make sure everyone is aware of it, here it is:
All you have to do is:
Create one short story-like reply that can address everyone you want to leave a comment for.
You can do this by creating one reply story to address responses from ONE or MULTIPLE stories.
The two most important actions require that you:
- Compile the names of everyone you want to give a reply to and why
- Include the links so everyone receives proper notification that you reached out
That means that when you start writing this global reply story, you never forget to do the following:
Simply include the “@” symbol, just before you start typing the profile name of the writer that you’re addressing.
This is a super easy way to reply to responses, and at the same time, alert readers to the fact that you answered them.
It’s that simple, but just in case, allow me to show you exactly what I mean.
A simple example of how to reply
Obviously, there are all kinds of creative ways that writers can devise, to help them interact with fellow members.
The strategy that I mention in this story is a good one, because it’s so easy, you can use the method on a regular basis.
Eventually, this activity will become second nature to you, and you’ll find yourself building a bigger and stronger Medium audience.

Here’s an example that I created, so I could share it with you in this story.
The selected story that I decided to add a global-style reply to, is my profile related story called:
I chose this story for my demonstration, because something happened, that made me want to reach out and share how I feel about the comments that readers left for Justiss Goode.

- First, I selected the story from my Profile page, and then clicked the little “bell” icon to view and manage that specific story’s Notifications.
- Then, I clicked the option to sort the “Responses” by the latest to oldest date.

This is where I began collecting the profile names and comments I wanted to reply to. I copied and pasted those details into a story draft.
- I inserted a brief statement to connect to each profile name, specific to their response.
Once my global response was created, I simply published it like a story (except I didn’t submit it to any of my publications).

Final Thoughts
When it comes to the need to get connected and stay engaged with your Medium family and tribe, you can’t afford to underestimate the value of doing this.
I know this better than anyone, and I also know that I could personally stand to do a lot better.
With more than 3600 Medium followers, I can never seem to reach out to nearly enough of them!
That’s why I make sure that the little bit of engagement that I manage to do, is genuine.
There’s nothing better than finding a heartfelt comment on one of your stories.
Sincerity always makes people want to write and leave a reply, and that’s a good thing.
You benefit, your readers benefit, and in the long run, ultimately, you end up improving your stats and earning more money.
