Here Is the Formula for Writing A Successful Story
And the answer will surprise you.
Writers always share their ideas about what causes their stories to perform extremely well. As a mission oriented content creator who endeavors to positively impact the lives of others, I read some of the suggestions that some of these writers share. However, I avoid reading stories that exclusively focus on making money as the only motivation for writer because that is not why I have chosen to develop my collective skills as a writer. The sad reality is that some view writing as a scheme to make a lot of quick money.
My purpose for reading stories that highlight successful factors associated with content creation is simple. I maintain a high level of curiosity about how some writers can amplify their voices and the messages they share.
When I follow the recommendations of others, the effect that I seek has no effect. This includes increased readership and engagement because this will contribute to my efforts to ignite family engagement. So, I stick to the only things that matter to me as a writer. These include:
- remaining purpose-driven by sharing information related to family engagement in education, the community, and within the home,
- producing quality stories as I adhere to the guidelines of the Medium platform,
- following SEO guidelines,
- writing consistently,
- endeavoring to speak to the heart of my readers,
- embracing perseverance so that I do not give up; and
- remaining a dedicated writer.
And This Recently Happened
Because I exclusively follow the unique writing methods that I outlined above, something remarkable happened when I recently published a story.
I became inspired to share very basic strategies that can be used to plan a Thanksgiving meal. I wanted to help readers use their time efficiently by planning their meal preparation wisely. As I embraced my inspiration and desire to help others, I was also taken back to an earlier time in my life. Before becoming a school and district administrator and university professor, I was a family and consumer sciences teacher for 13 years. (It used to be called home economics.)
I especially loved my advanced cooking classes. This was a period in my life that I had a desire to have a cooking show, too. Sadly, that hope never materialized because the televised food show market had not been conceived at that time and my career took a different path. However, my passion for sharing ideas about food preparation has remained in my heart.
This is the story that I published on November 7, 2021, that encompasses these things.
I did not spend much time planning this story. It’s not as though I threw words together to create a fast story either. The reality is that I never do. But what I did was very profound.
I simply let the information that I shared flow from my heart to create the story. The story reflected what I was passionate about. And here is what happened.
I have been a creator on the Medium platform since April 2019 and have written over 430 quality stories. My followers continue to grow at an astounding rate. Out of all the content that I have created over time, this story has grown to become the most popular and most widely accepted one that I have ever written and published.
Out of all the individualized strategies that I exclusively adhere to, I believe that this story has captured the heart of readers.

Thanksgiving is the most popular holiday in the United States. It represents an extremely wonderful and blessed time of the year when expressions of thankfulness are extended as families and friends gather. Sharing thoughtfully and lovingly prepared food makes the day special.
And families and friends travel great distances, even globally, to share this precious time with loved ones on Thanksgiving.
Because the pandemic has put restrictions on the way this holiday was most recently observed, it is now safer to gather on Thanksgiving. Those who are hosting gatherings this year want to make the holiday as memorable and enjoyable as possible. In doing so, they will make the celebration as glorious as they can even if it means following basic tips that I offer in my story.
In all its simplicity, I created a strategic story without even realizing it.
