Help Wanted: Personal Chef
Day eight of the Refresh the Soul 30-day writing challenge

If money were no object, how would you spend your time?
“What’s for dinner,” echos through my home each day. I didn’t realize when I became a parent how important this one meal would be.
When I lived on my own in my 30’s after a divorce, it was a passing thought around 5 or 6 pm. I would stop at Chipolte for a burrito or toss a single frozen entree in the microwave. Or have a bowl of Lucky Charms (don’t judge).
When the kids were little, it was managing what they would like with one picky and one nonpicky eater. Managing a good meal filled with vegetables versus what they will actually eat.
I remember on a few different occasions snapping at my family, “Make your own dinners; I don’t care! I’m not a chef.”
So to answer the question, if money was no object, I would first hire a personal chef. Tell them all about our likes and dislikes and let them have free reign in my kitchen. Do all the shopping and planning. Make all the meals.

Then I would have time to:
- Read more, for example, recipe books. I would text the chef (his name will be Patrick) the recipes I would like to try. I would browse Instagram looking for the most beautiful food pics to forward to Patrick (have you seen Trista Signe Ainsworth's Instagram?)
- Post more on Medium. Post the stunning food Patrick made (of course, giving him all the credit).
- Go for more walks. Ya know, to walk off all those calories.
- Travel to exotic lands, bringing home recipes for Patrick to try.
- The best part? Entertain more. Oh yes, I would have people over all the time if I had a personal chef. Just imagine the charcuterie boards and the desserts.
So the next time someone asks, “What’s for dinner, Mom?”
I would answer, “Ask Patrick!”
What about you?
Feel free to share your answer to the question in the comments and even add a link to your 30-day Refresh the Soul Writing Challenge post if you have written one. I would love to read your thoughts.
