Help Wanted: Interns for Our Favorite Jobs
MuddyUm writers’ prompt inspired by dragons

A piece that popped up on McSweeney’s came to the crew and captain’s attention:
It’s a fine piece of well-edited writing.
Here is your writers’ prompt
The formula —
- Pick a profession that is unusual. Dragon guarding treasure is already taken.
- Imagine who you’d like to hire for that profession.
- Write a title for your story that makes everyone laugh. Get feedback from the crew, aboard ship in the Facebook Outlaws group or our Slack channel.
- Once you’ve got your title, then, and ONLY THEN, write your story.
How to play
- Follow MuddyUm publication guidelines.
- Use exactly ‘Muddyumprompt’ and ‘Humor’ for two of your five tags.
- Carefully edit and ensure all images are captioned with source information. Images must be free use and have appropriate attributions.
- Include a box link of this prompt piece at the bottom of your submission. A box link looks like the links below, with title, subtitle and featured image visible.
- Tag me to help me find your submission: Susan Brearley
These steps will help us find your ‘job postings’ and collect the best of the best for a future newsletter. We just might find you the perfect candidate.
Let the hiring, and firing, begin.
If you’re not already a MuddyUm writer, you’re invited to join our pirate ship crew and submit your humor writing. Email Captain Susan Brearley at [email protected] for consideration.
Susan B. is a serial entrepreneur, writer, editor, poet and ship captain. Come find her in the Garden.
