Hello Good Times

a poem

hello good times I wave you in, welcoming good fortune into my abode like a guest.

You bring in that obligatory basket of tangerines, golden fruit, because you wouldn’t want to just bring bananas.

I return the favour with a nice fragrant tea, and delicious baked cookies.

Sometimes I remember that these good times may not come knocking at my door, but rather I may have to send that invitation — an e-vite, nowadays, I suppose.

Come hither, good times, and let’s have a good ol’ chat.

Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) wants to explain that it is customary in Chinese tradition, when visiting someone else, to bring a gift of some sort, even if it’s a casual visit. “To bring just bananas” is a euphemism for coming empty-handed, as hands kind of do look like bananas?
