HAIKU
Heart Hitchhiker
Can you really afford to be in love with the idea of being in love?

Thumb up, love seeker.
Be wary of first offers.
Will you catch a ride?
Am I the only one saddened by the fact that some people are just in love with the idea of love? Romantic interests for these individuals happen to indiscriminately be in their line of sight, like a hitchhiker along the side of a desolate highway. Desiring love is not uncommon or weird. Hitchhikers don’t care about the ride, they are concerned with just getting to the destination. Heart hitchhikers are the same way, the vehicle is inconsequential in their eyes.
Just latching on to someone to say that you are attached can be problematic.
Everyone you meet is not worthy of receiving your love. Many narcissists and abusers pick up on the desperation signal some people unknowingly transmit. Faking the language of love can be a technique used to draw someone into a detrimental web of toxicity.
Particularly vulnerable people are those that never experienced a healthy loving relationship before. I decided a long time ago that I didn’t want to fall in love again. Falling in love indicates I could get up anytime I want to, which is not good. At my age, I prefer growing into loving someone as I get to know them over time.
Question
People who are single and searching, do you think it is better to grow in love or just completely fall? Please let me know your thoughts in the comments.
Thank you for reading my poem.
