Headstone
A Poem
Here I sit across from you under the trees shielding my sadness
Sag Harbor memories of summers past Of you and I as father and son
But now it’s just me still your son with no father at the foot of your headstone
I take solace in seeing your name where it says, father but you are gone and I am alone sitting at your grave
I talk to you hoping you hear me My whispers My deepest thoughts Do you know when I am there? Can you feel me? Do you hear me?
I can’t feel you I can only read your name over and over father which is now in the past But I am still your son spending time with your Headstone
