He Found Out His Family Died on the Streets of Ukraine on Twitter
The strength of the Ukrainian people is beyond admirable
For the past month, I have been following this horrific and unnecessary criminal attack in Ukraine. Every day I see drone shots of the devastation Putin is inflicting on this peaceful country. People flee to nearby countries or decide to hunker down in their home country. Either way, all of them are so strong and brave.
Whether it’s going out for food and being killed, sitting peacefully in their own homes only to be bombed, fighting on the front lines for their country, digging mass graves because there is no time for individual proper funerals, finding out their wife and kids were killed on the streets via Twitter or any other unimaginable pain these poor people are facing, I try to picture myself in their situation and I don’t know what I would do.
As a mother myself, I naturally watch these incredibly brave mothers doing whatever they can to protect their children, most often without their husbands or the men in their lives since they had to stay back to fight.
The news was covering stories of mothers who had sick children and had to find a safe place to get medical treatment for them. It is hard enough having a sick child in everyday life, but seeing these women literally carry their child as they walk for miles alone in the frigid cold, not knowing what can happen second by second, just to get somewhere safe is the epitome of strength.
I then see a maternity hospital in Mariupol that was targeted and hit along with pictures of the damage it left, the pregnant mothers who were injured along with their stories. I pray they are all ok. A week later they followed up with updates on the women they featured in that attack. I find out one of the women and her unborn child passed away and my heart broke. These women didn’t ask for this. They were just trying to stay safe and protect their unborn children. No threat to anyone.
Putin is a monster. I do not understand how someone can be so heartless, selfish, and malicious. He sees what his actions are doing on a daily basis to these peaceful innocent people and still continues. Not only does he not value Ukrainian people’s lives, but he also doesn’t even value the lives of his fellow Russians. He sends thousands of troops into this war and doesn’t care one bit whether they live or die, as long as he gets what he wants.
Not all of these Russian troops are going to this war willingly. Many of them are scared as well and have families that are scared and worried their loved ones won’t come back home from this war. In addition, knowing their leader will not do anything to protect these troops. They are easily replaceable to Putin.
A message to the Russian people: You are not the enemy. Your president is. I hope more and more start seeing the truth and come to the realization that Putin is lying to them all. If they see what Putin is really doing I know they will think it is wrong and fight back. If this message reaches just one person it will be worth it.
I admire all Ukrainians in their fight for their lives and for the country they love so much. Don’t give up, stay strong, and know you have millions of people around the world praying for you and with you during this unimaginable time.
