He
A poem
He took my breath Took my time Took my heart Left this rhyme
He took my hand Took my mouth Took my belief And left this doubt
He turned my words Into a thunderous roar Into a wail of grief Then closed the door
He didn’t want me anymore
Then HE took my breath And took my hand And earned my trust Because he understands
That I need my words Need love returned And have given too easy What was unearned
He held my heart And met my mouth Gave me reason to believe To discard the doubt
He doesn’t take your place He’s made his own These days, I don’t stand In love alone
But stand by him Our hands entwined From grief, emerged The stars aligned
You left my heart He holds it close You needed to consider He already knows.
