Having an Attitude of Adventure Awaits Will Make Your Life Sparkle

Don’t wait for somebody to create an adventure, create your own.

I parked my car at Pen Mar Park on the border of Pennsylvania and Maryland, then grabbed my running hydration vest. The early morning light was beginning to streak across the sky.

I quickly found the white blaze that marks the Appalachian Trail and began running north. I had never run this section before, so I was filled with an equal measure of nervousness and excitement.

Then the magic happened!

I was running northward into Pennsylvania and had passed the sign marking the Mason-Dixon line. As I rounded a corner, I came upon train tracks and crossed over.

And there the magic adventure portal stood!

The magic adventure portal awaits. Photo taken by author on the Appalachian Trail near Pen Mar Park.

Behind a sign with Appalachian Trail, the portal was trimmed in the fall leaves of yellow and orange with a couple of green ones mixed in. The path was covered in fallen leaves.

The nervousness quickly departed from my body as I was like a little kid. I couldn’t wait to go through the portal and discover the adventure awaiting me.

All day long, I was treated to fantastic beauty, grand vistas, challenging climbs, and people out enjoying their adventures.

When I returned to my car in the late afternoon for the five-hour drive home, I wasn’t tired. I was filled with incomprehensible peace.

As I drove home, thinking about the wonderful adventure I had been on, I was also filled with the thought that I should live my life every day like I’m about to embark on a great adventure.

I resolved to begin every day not with the dread of my huge to-do list and all life responsibilities but with the excitement of wondering what great adventure I would have that day.

Life is meant to be lived to the full. We are promised that we will have a full life by the One who sacrificed all that we might have life.

When we live in a state of regret or despair, we miss out on the portals that await to give us a life filled with awe, wonder, and peace.

You don’t need to go for a run on the Appalachian Trail to find this kind of life.

Adventure awaits you around the corner.

Stop sitting and staring at the TV or computer screen expecting great adventures to smack you upside the head.

Get out there and live.

Adventure awaits.
